Animax to Simulcast Latest Anime Series Coppelion Across Asia at the Same Time as Japan

Singapore, 18 September 2013Animax, Asia's first channel dedicated to anime programming, is set to bring to audiences the brand new anime TV series, Coppelion. As Animax's latest simulcast title, the show will air across the region at exactly the same time that it premieres in Japan!

Coppelion was originally slated to broadcast two years ago, until the earthquake and tsunami of 11 March 2011 struck Japan and caused radiation leaks at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. With the post apocalyptic science fiction anime series coincidentally set in a country in the wake of a worse disaster of the same nature, the anime studio GoHands and the Japanese broadcaster had no choice but to shelf Coppelion.

Two years on in 2013, with the decision made to broadcast Coppelion in Japan, Animax is taking the opportunity to simulcast the show across Asia. Premiering on 2 October, airing on Wednesdays at 8pm, in sync with Japan, first and exclusively on Animax, Coppelion is well and truly the long-awaited anime series of the year.

“As Asia's specialist in anime, Animax is dedicated to offering great anime content fresh. Coppelion is a unique and high quality anime series with a compelling story. Fans have endured a two year wait to see it and we are proud to have made it possible for Animax audiences across our region to enjoy the show together with viewers in Japan,” said Hui Keng Ang, Senior Vice President, Business Operations, Networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television.

The intriguing Coppelion opens in the not-too-distant future, in the capital of the post-catastrophe country ravaged by widespread radiation contamination from the meltdown of its power plant following an earthquake. The city had long since evacuated, placed under lockdown for two decades, and considered dead within the high, protective walls that confine it. The surviving population had gotten on with life in the western region of the country for two decades.

However, a distress signal from the old capital is received and the country's defense forces dispatches three girls of its 3rd Division's Special Forces unit, codenamed ‘Coppelion’, to investigate and search for survivors. Dressed like high school girls, the trio is anything but ordinary as Ibara Naruse, Aoi Fukasaku and Taeko Nomura are impervious to radioactivity as a result of genetic engineering. Together, they will seek out what lies within the devastated metropolis.

Coppelion is the adaptation of the seinen (teenage and young adult male) manga (comic) series of the same title by Inoue Tomonoki that is currently still ongoing in Japan since 2008. The anime series is produced by GoHands which was also gave us the original anime series K that was simulcast last October on Animax, and was involved in making the Mardock Scramble trilogy of anime films. Coppelion's opening and ending theme songs "ANGEL" and “Far” respectively, are both sang by Japanese pop band angela whose songs have featured in anime productions such as Soukyuu no Fafner: Heaven and Earth and Asura Cryin'.

With the two year wait finally behind us, embark on the perilous search and rescue mission of the special trio of high school girls in Coppelion, simulcasting at the same time as Japan, only on Animax.
