First Look: Crowdfunded Anime 'Shinsei Galverse' by Ayaka Ohira Premieres This Summer
TOKYO — May 6, 2025 — Shinsei Galverse, the highly anticipated independent sci-fi anime created by director Ayaka Ōhira, will officially premiere in Summer 2025. Originally a freelance animator, Ohira built a name for herself in the fashion and music industries through creating dynamic and emotionally resonant music videos and artwork for Japanese and international artists including m-flo, YOASOBI, Hatsune Miku, and Tove Lo.
The OVA follows Zero, who crash-lands on the war-torn planet Amatera amidst a conflict threatening all life. With no memory of her past, Zero joins resistance leader Ring in uncovering the truth behind the relentless Gevuran invaders. Together, they unravel the mysteries of Zero's true cosmic identity as a “Galverse” and face an epic confrontation spanning space and time.
The anime boasts industry veterans including Art Direction from studio Ogura Atelier (Ghost in the Shell), Co-Director Yūta Takamura (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable), acclaimed writer Natsuko Takahashi (Bleach, Go! Princess Pretty Cure), and renowned character designers Satoshi Ishino (Tokyo Mew Mew) and Momo Nagayama. The OVA's production was led by ARCH (The Journey), while S.o.K was in charge of animation production.

Shinsei Galverse was crowdfunded by over 4,000 passionate anime fans, and blends 90s anime nostalgia reminiscent of classics such as Magic Knight Rayearth and Ghost in the Shell with a modern production approach, offering unprecedented behind-the-scenes access throughout its creation. Fans followed the project's journey closely, engaging directly with creators and contributing their own ideas for characters, props, and even marketing concepts.
