City's cosplay community unite for an immersive ‘Cosplay 101’ workshop
Mumbai, April 20, 2026: The Mumbai cosplay community came together to level up their craft at the ‘Cosplay 101’ Workshop, hosted by Comic Con India. The hands-on cosplay workshop took place on Sunday at Sthamba Global Brewery in Andheri West, where over 150 fans gathered for an immersive learning experience, sharpening their cosplay skills through live demonstrations, practical guidance, and expert insights from some of India's most admired cosplayers.
The workshop was led by two-time Indian Championship of Cosplay winner Akshay Churi, alongside cosplayer Tejal Mulik and Jeet Molankar. Participants were taken through every step of the cosplay journey, from selecting the right costume and sourcing materials to mastering texture detailing and achieving a complete character transformation. The session offered guidance in costume construction, foam-based prop creation, professional VFX makeup, and wig styling.
Speaking about the workshop, Akshay Churi said, ““It was a very fun interactive session. We explained all the concepts of cosplaying including armour making to needle work to make-up and wig. It was interactive session where we got to interact with a lot of upcoming cosplayers and help them solve their issue and overall it was a fun experience and hope to see more cosplayers at the upcoming Mumbai Comic Con.”
The mentors also broke down advanced techniques step by step, including achieving a convincing metallic sheen, weathering props for battle-worn realism, layering highlights and shadows for depth, and perfecting and VFX-inspired makeup. Beyond visuals, the workshop emphasized performance techniques, empowering fans to step off the sidelines and bring their favourite characters to life with professional flair and precision.
The event successfully fostered collaboration, learning, and creativity, further strengthening Mumbai's vibrant cosplay community and setting the stage for even bigger cosplay moments to come.
These cosplayers will showcase their finest skills at Mumbai Comic Con, set to take place on May 9–10, 2026, at the Jio World Convention Centre.
