Yeah, but it only beat the competition because it was a "box-office lull" weekend since the summer movie season is over and we still have a month or so before the bulk of the serious Oscar contenders start hitting the screens in October (though Mira Nair's Vanity Fair is getting some good buzz, and that's being released in September).
