Borders, please die already. I've heard one of the "saviour" ideas you had, and.......y'know, just die already.

The Borders that opened up here used to be my favourite book shop. It's sad to see them sink like this Sad

Is/was Borders really so bad? I always liked having a chance to walk into a store with my 30/40/50% off coupon and leave with a manga in-hand, instead of waiting for it to show up in the mail. They were especially handy for smaller publishers I couldn't get $50 worth of product together for to get free shipping at TRSI... a few cents in tax beats 4 bucks shipping. OK, so sometimes it was a pain to get ahold of specific volumes. That's true of any B&M store (you shoulda seen be looking for Queen CDs a couple months ago- talk about a fruitless effort.) To be fair, I never once just asked about those volumes either... I bet they could've done something if I had.

I'd like to see these guys try to cut Borders just a little slack... I really think they did get too big for their own good, but I certainly don't want to lose them altogether. Also, I miss my local Borders, and it's only been gone a couple weeks. Crying or Very sad

You'll have to resort to buying manga online or find the remaining brick and mortar stores around that specialize in manga. It's a shame Borders is fading away, but this is a sad trend that has become a norm in the North American market. Tokyopop's gone with a host of other manga publishers and Dark Horse has been laying off its staff in given intervals.

Apparently, it's been going downhill since Borders eliminated Waldenbooks as a brand. 2002-2003-ish?

Inept management, unrealitic sales ideas, the loss of the "community" aspect, the whole "let homeless people and teenagers tear apart and ruin books cause their technically customers" mentality......

I feel like no one remembers that barnes and nobles is still around, it has a different feel than borders and I personally always loved borders more, but barnes and nobles sells manga too and as far as I know they're not in any financial trouble.

I only have 1 B&N near me as opposed to the 3 (now 2) Borders + 1 Waldenbooks. Kind of obvious why I ignore it usually, but then with the Rewards program and the fact that all of those Borders have a much larger manga selection than B&N. If B&N wants my attention, then offer more manga and prices that can compete with Borders.

Our store looks like Walmart now anyway. Embarrassing to walk past some of the crap on the floor. We cater to people with coupons in their hands and all the homeless within a mile of the store.

Come on in, have a seat, **** up our merchandise, **** on the floor in the bathroom. Take a bath while you are there, and just might get lucky and get a free drink. In fact spend the entire day. It's much too hot out there for you, and we really do enjoy the smell. If you get bored you can open a few of the puzzles, and oh here's a pen. Check out the large assortment of crossword books.

Don't forget Twilight.

BTW, Borders got it's extension over the objections of the Creditors Committee:

And this is a possible reason:
