I think Gundam is really cool and I really want to get into one of the manga series and start collecting the best kind. Which one do you think I should start collecting and get in to.

I've only read the Gundam Wing manga serieses so I can only tell you that the adaptation of the series itself really sucks, so I would avoid that. Endless Waltz's manga is okay, but just the same as the movie. The three alternate universe-like mangas that are set between the main series and Endless Waltz are okay, though I don't personally like Ground Zero very much.

However by far the best of the Gundam Wing manga is Episode Zero, I highly recommend it for any Gundam Wing fan.

I'd reccomend G Gundam. I've heard from numerous places that G Gundam is one of the best Gundam mangas.

I've also heard that Gundam SEED, although a good anime series, is terrible as manga.

Edit: Other way around. Gundam SEED is one of the best and G Gundam is terrible. Thank you KyoKun for alerting me of my confusion.

On the contrary SharinganEyes92 G gundam manga is poorly paced and very much rushed, the art is'nt as good as it could be and is much of a bore.

However, I have seen Gundam SEED and love it, I have also read the first manga and it is so much better than G gundam manga.

Well it depends what century you like. My favorite one was Gundam Wing: Last Outpost. It takes place on another colony or something like that.

I am extrememly sorry. Yes, I had myself confused. My mistake. A thousand apologies. I confused the two. It's been a long time since I've read the article about Gundam manga reviews. SEED is better; G Gundam is worse.

I'll get to editing that post right away.

My fault. I apologize.

If you are just getting into Gundam, go with one of the anime rather than the manga. The manga adaptations of the TV series will always be inferior because they try to stick way too much material in way too few volumes. The possible exception to this would be the manga of the original Mobile Suit Gundam as they actual gave that one a decent number of volumes (9+) but I don't think they ever finished releasing it in the U.S.

I've heard that some of the SEED Astray manga is good. And Gundam Wing: Episode Zero is great if you liked the anime as it gives back story for each of the pilots.

My girlfriend bought me Gundam Seed Astray a while back. I've only read the first volume and I thought it was really good. I hope it ended well but I haven't read the other volumes. I'll start reading them in a bit and let you know as soon as possible.

I'm not a good sleeper so I always stay up really late and find weird things to do.

What Gundam did you watch that made you think it's really cool? Were I you, I'd get the manga that goes with the series. If, like Gundam Wing or the original Gundam series, there are more than one manga for the series, we can help guide you to the better of them.

My favorite manga is Gundam the Origin because I think the author (the character designer for the orignal Gundam series and Z Gundam) is a brilliant artist. Unfortunately the series is stalled in the U.S.

I have two volumes of Gundam SEED, and it isn't too shabby. The manga art is significantly better than the anime art, and the plot is more...concise I guess. The manga has clean inking, good charatcer expressions, and flows fairly well since things go by quicker and there don't seem to be any "why aren't we getting anywhere" moments up to where I'm at. One thing though, the anime shows motion better since it's animated, so I didn't find some scenes quite as exciting.

To be blunt, just about none of the really worthwhile Gundam manga is available in English. And the saddest part is, most of it never will be. Crossbone Gundam, Char's Deleted Affair, The Origin: Char & Sayla Edition, Advance of Zeta, the Gundam Sentinel and Gundam SEED Astray B photonovels, etc. are not, nor will likely ever be, released in English. And when you consider that utter dreck like the series adaptations (SEED, G, Wing) and obnoxious swill like the non-canon Wing sidestories like Ground Zero ARE available...well it makes me sick, I dunno about the rest of you.

Now as for Gundam manga that are available that are worth it? Well...there are really only three. First and foremost is Gundam SEED Astray. Basically, it's a bunch of sidestories to Gundam SEED that follow a totally original cast of characters and, in many ways, is consistently either on par with or superior to the original SEED in many aspects. The characters are fun, the mobile suit designs are wonderful, and the stories help greatly in filling in some of the more interesting details about the Cosmic Era timeline (and if you're a fan of SEED's MSV characters or minor SEED characters like Erica Simmons or the female Astray pilot trio, you'll only enjoy Astray even more). It also has three sequels, Astray R (which exclusively follows character Lowe Guele and the Gundam Astray Red Frame; the Astray B photonovel similarly follows Gai Murakumo and the Gundam Astray Blue Frame), Astray X, and Destiny Astray. So far, only Astray and Astray R are available, but Astray X and Destiny Astray are really only inevitable (and Destiny Astray is actually so good it almost redeems the abysmal quality of Gundam SEED Destiny).

The other two worthwhile titles are Mobile Suit Gundam: Lost War Chronicles, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Ecole du Ciel. Lost War Chronicles is written by the author behind Astray, and brings much of Astray's energy into an 08th MS Team-like setting during the original Mobile Suit Gundam's One Year War. Not quite on Astray's level, but entertaining all the same. Ecole du Ciel is basically about a female pilot cadet going through the Federation's academy, and is really more of a character drama than an actiony war story. Probably about as close as Gundam will ever get to a shoujo, too; it's unique in that regard, and really quite good.
