I loved the Massacre arc. Ryukishi's detailed analyses shed additional light on the themes of his stories.
I particularly enjoyed how the ending was both gruesome, repulsive and hopeful simultaneously.
Reading it brought the After Midnight arc into a new light as well. A recurring theme is how the characters see what they want to see rather than endeavouring to understand each other and dig deeper to glean the real truth hiding behind boiling swamps and deliberate deceit.
Initially I thought Ooishi would be the villain, since Ooishi sounds very similar to "oishii" (delicious), and he does look like a character that might devour people (literally).

I loved how Oishii's character was handled throughout the series--one of the best instances of misdirection I've seen in any manga/anime.
