Don't hold your breath for it.
Even if LWA gets a series, that would be many years down the line.

Congratulations to all of the people that pledged to make this happen. I hope that Trigger uses your money wisely. I thought about doing a pledge myself but reading all of the comments by the anti English dub crowd (/a?) kinda left me with a cringe. I will buy the Blu-ray when it comes to Amazon JP, stateside, or whatever Trigger/acctil plan to do for it.

I put up my money for this. If it eventually grows to be a series, gets a full English dub and makes a mint for Trigger in the US, well I'd be happy, but if it only ever goes this far I'm still happy.

Yes, because the only thing that matters with anime is the English goddamn dub.

I don't even know why people were bringing up a dub to begin with.

I have no idea either. I'm pretty sure most of them were too stupid to figure out that English dubbing had nothing to do with that project. If they want it dubbed then they should bother acttil or whatever since they're not producing a dub for their upcoming release of LWA: http://www.acttil.com/littlewitchacademia/product.html

This is the 5th highest funded film and video project in Kickstarter history. And Time of Eve was the second highest percentage over goal as well(as in it went to 1196% funded).

Anime fans are great fans indeed.

They asked what the backers thought of a dub for LWA 2. That $500k stetch goal might have included a dub had the response been more positive.

acttil most likely wouldn't anyways as LWA is probably a quick and easy cash grab for them. (why else would a startup video game distributor go with anime for their first release?) Also, isn't their upcoming release an import?

They think everyone can understand English and are thus entitled to receive an English dub that not everyone will use [they don't mention a Chinese dub, Italian dub, German dub, French dub, Korean dub...].

@Fencedude What's wrong with producing an English version simultaneously with the Japanese version? The same thing has happened with Transformers Armada/Micron Legend, Transformers, Tenchi in Love, Gundam Unicorn and a few others. While the Transformers "dubs" were dubious in quality and Tenchi's was terrible, Gundam UC has a great "dub" to say the least. Th The reason he(luffy) mentioned it was because that Trigger Tattun guy asked if LWA2 should be dubbed. Since this is the internet, the results were obviously not in favor for a dub. It was pretty anti-dub. Like 15%(20% if we're being nice) of all votes seriously wanted one. The rest either said no or only if "so, so and so" happens.

EDIT: It's not like dubs are expensive either. They seriously are not. It costs about $10,000 in the high average to make a dub for one episode and since LWA2 is only one episode, it's a cheap dub, if they do decide to cook one up during the last minute. The most expensive dubs are the Ghibli movie dubs. I believe the dub of P Mononoke cost about $2.3 million in 1999 to produce. Other expensive dubs are IGPX, Code Geass, Steamboy, Akira Special Edition, high profile anime. LWA2 is not high profile, nor will you ever see Mark Hamill or even graduated* VAs like Laura Bailey, Crispin Freeman, Troy Baker, Richard Epcar or Darran Norris within 100 miles of it.

*graduated refers to VAs, who mainly did anime, but are union and uses their talents to dub very mainstream Japanese games or do pre -lay in American cartoons. Union work pays very well. I believe the average pay per hour, without residuals is nearly $700 and I believe you work for at least 2 hours. So if you did cartoon work for 2 hours for let's say 3 days in a week, you'd be earning $4200 a week, plus residuals. That's over $200,000, without tax, plus any residuals on AVERAGE.

I would assume everyone who contributed could understand English after all they went on an English site to pledge money, posted comments in English, some even asked questions in English, and understood the responses given in English so it is not hard to assume they understand English.

You are correct no one is entitled to anything however if someone is willing to pay for it how it that entitlement? Not everyone uses the Japanese track either does that make it unnecessary?

If there are fans that want dubs in those languages or other languages, no one is stopping them from not only asking for one but also putting their money where their month is and show that there is an audience for one.

I think you need to calm down. There's no need to be hostile about it. He's not even saying that, it's just that for some reason so many of those people have some kind of a death wish for dubs. It's ridiculous really. I've seen quite a few good ones, any can be good as long as they have a dedicated and talented staff behind them.

Anyway, this is great to hear though. It's so uplifting to know that the fans were able to be directly involved in the production of this and that because of them it is going to be double the length of it's initial run time. That speaks a lot for the future of fundraising through Kickstarter. It obviously has much potential in the anime industry and I hope campaigns similar to this one continue in the future. I only regret not getting around to backing it up like I wanted to.

You make some great points. They asked if the fans wanted a dub, it was only logical that people responded to that question. I don't see why some people think producing a dub would have been that big of a deal anyway. And yes, not everybody will use the Japanese dub either. Especially young children who would otherwise love to watch it. I don't mind having to watch it in Japanese at all, but an English dub would definitely be welcomed by me.
