he produces award winning manga that also get turned into live action tv shows..... and yet he goes full #(tard and manages to fudge it all up. WHY? can somebody please tell me?

In one word? Stress.
After so long of dealing with stuff some people just end up cracking and going temporarily insane. That might not definitely be the case here, but it's possible it might have. Famous people having meltdowns is nothing new.

Work related stress is also pretty likely in Japan, simply because their society in general tries too hard to push themselves.
