Anyway, I just read about this on Kotaku. Yeah given it's "gold-ness" and Japan's tend to overprice thing, it doesn't surprise me. But anyway, it's look really cool. Smile

You could buy a house and a used Ferrari/Lamborghini (possibly all 3) for that price and you might still have money left.

That price is unbelievably cheap.... Surprised IF it were 15kg of 24k gold. I presume that 15kg must include the base, because the price just for 15kg of gold itself is $626,939 (at ~$1,300/troy oz)

You're correct; the source says:
"価格は1億5000万円" --> "Price is 100 million 50 million yen"

Mom, I know what I want for Christmas this year!

Although, I don't understand the marketing behind this, or how it works, but someone out there is sitting around thinking "Let's sell a gold Godzilla. It will be almost half a million dollars".

The fact the someone might actually buy this is frightening, but I will be jealous of them nonetheless.

Ah ok, that makes more sense. Usually precious metal collectibles and rare numismatics command a very high premium over the bullion price. I see ANN updated it now to state:

The silly thing is a person could just buy 15kg of gold at its actual price. Then take that along to a gold master-craftsmen and I am sure they would make anything they wanted from the gold for a premium far less.
