well this gives me mixed feelings. This was one of the best action manga series ever to a certain point of a manga, then it went downhill, unquestionably.
But despite that, no it was not cancelled. Kenichi is a top selling manga I rember it reaching 500 k some years a go when I was looking at weekly manga sales, i doubt it dropped that much.
Guess Matsuena lost interest, he's a rich man he can do what he wants after he's had a big hit for so many years.
I am just disapointed that kenichi never really became a martial arts master. A time skip would have been better, showing kenichi being 50+ years old as a badass martial artist having his own disciple or something

I guess the mangaka just wanted to draw sexy girls and that's clearly what he was more into as of late. Kind of sad he couldn't find a balance between sexy girls and intense martial arts. I think Fairy Tail is doing a better job of balancing that out.
Not to mention the job of being mangaka is extremely taxing for a lot of people.

true enough though i kinda doubt the author will do a sequel like that. kinda too bad that the manga never got licensed in the US let alone the OVAs.

It sounds like the OVAs aren't done yet though and Funi did say the series did well (it's on the Classics line) so I don't see why they wouldn't go for them.

And it looks like OP has outlasted another strong competitor However this is definitely one of my favorite series from Shonen Magazine and I'm sad to see it end. But I'm sure it will be very interesting to see what he has next for his lineup.

It's going to be a new manga, where Kenichi finally becomes an expert and has to learn how to master his new abilities possibly. There have been subtle hints dropping towards that.

neither do i. but then again funi never got any of the negima OVA's other than the Natsu and Haru Specials. so there must be a reason why they haven't licensed any of the kenichi OVAs. Though my main thing is why haven't the manga been licensed? Considering that its successful in japan and its a shonen action type manga like naruto, bleach, etc, it should have been licensed a long time ago. Its probably the same reason why the Psyren manga haven't had its own anime series as yet. no one is willing to take a chance and make a leap of faith.
