Well, if the new arc that starts next week doesn't get you back into the groove with Claymore, then I don't know what will.  The "Endless Gravestones" arc rocks big time.

wow i have to say that claymore has continued to impress me even more especially with the most random of things happening
episode 12spoiler[: the meeting with the warned about orpheila so quickly, the removal of clares legs, the kiss scene, and the seperation. all of which i didn't exspect to happen at all! i actually thought raki and clare were gonna be together for a long time] is it me or does the artwork seem a lil bit different. |

Indeed. She totally freaked me out when I first read the manga. She's one creepy biyatch, but yet she's also so very cool at the same time. Madhouse just nailed her facial expressions, and I love the seiyuu that was cast. Nicely done. spoiler[Anyone notice that Ophelia was that mysterious Claymore from Miria's flashback in episode 11? I thought it was pretty neat how a flashback was used not onl to explain something, but also as a method of foreshadowing future events.]
It's great isn't it? Claymore can really be quite unpredictable at times. Even during the more predictable stuff, it almost always seems to still surprise you in some way or another. In the manga thread we've been saying: "It's not what happens it's how it happens." That phrase really does describe some of the events in Claymore quite well. I didn't notice anything different about the artwork though. |

Actually, it was quite easy for me to tell that the production was going to be better in this episode judging from the opening sequence (notice the extra detail in the movements and like... when that hat dude smiles)...
Yeah... this is the thing about Claymore: episode production quality seems to vary and it's rather easy off the bat to tell if the episode will be of higher quality or not. But yeah, the highlight of this episode, much like episode 8 (or... whichever episode it was that I really liked) was the better (if not excellent) use of angles and perspective... (and I'm talking PERSPECTIVE... just look at how the features of the character's faces in this episode just pop out) The mood with the spoiler[awakened being (which turned up out of nowhere... I was under the impression that this was a trap for Clare, actually)] was quite nice as opposed to the last one. Only place where this sort of fell short (aside from the usual panning thing with the animation here and there) was the actual fight scenes since there were too many stylistic stills; Kawajiri should do an episode of this thing (I mean... since Highlander is over, I have not the slightest idea what else he's doing right now)... but I'm not sure he does episode direction under other directors (I can't remember what he did in Master Keaton... I think it was a storyboard)... though, he could always do key animation. Oh, that aside, MAN was this a great episode; I loved the craziness... this was what I was waiting for. Ophelia is one crazy-ass bitch. The spoiler["game"] thing she set up was so awesome; tension ran pretty high there. I'm still giggling at how awesome it was. I also liked the: spoiler[Kiss scene] That really took me by surprise. In fact, there was an unsual emphasis on spoiler[lips] this episode. (or, it seemed that way to me) But yeah, my interest has been vastly rekindled. |

I've just finished watching ep 12 and noticed the change in artwork immediately. For me, it seemed that production values just took a nosedive. The basic problems are too many "budget shots", and the fact that the facial animations often don't match the head movements correctly. Way to not go

I dunno, I honestly though this episode looked a helluva lot better than the last 3 episodes.
They only seem like budget shots, but there's more detail endowed in subtle movement, which I tend to prefer as opposed to clumsy "big" movements. But yeah... too many stylistic stills in the fight scenes; that I didn't really like. Everything else was quite nice though. |

Nice. I'm glad that you're back "into the groove" with Claymore. I sort of called it too when I essentially said that I'd be surprised if your interest wasn't rekindled after this episode.
I noticed that too. That was quite unusual, especially during the spoiler[kiss scene]. But in all, it's yet another great episode of Claymore. I'm not usually very picky when it comes to animation, but then again I'm a big fan of Madhouse, so I'm probably biased and look past things such as the stuff you mentioned. |

Ophelia is just such a great character. I just love that combination JG mentioned here about how she's so creepy and so cool at the same time. In fact, I'd have to say she's cool because she's creepy. For other reasons too, but I think it mostly has to do with her creepiness. Madhouse really one some mega points with they're adaptation of her. Just perfect!
That's the greatest thing about this arc! It's just so fast paced and a lot of stuff happens that just blows your mind away! And trust me man, it ain't gonna slow down any time soon.
Yeah, I think we've pretty much beaten that one to death. But that really is just the kind of series this is, and that's kind of what I'd prefer it to be. I mean, that's what's so great about most shounen series, but with Claymore especially.
Oh, that was just so well done! It really captured the feeling you need to get at that moment, and then some! It almost made me wish the manga had done something similar. |

They do show Ophelia in the flashback it's just nowhere near as obvious. You get one panel of her with her pyscho crazy look but her face is blackened out like when she teleports behind clare in the manga. |

I was thinking the same thing, especially in the shot where she pulled back from Raki. Kind of a nice touch, I don't think Clare has ever looked hotter. 
And as others have said, Ophelia definetly has some issues. Creepy as she is though, spoiler[I thought it was cool how she was able to just snap her neck back into place. I mean, if she was able to dispatch an Awakened being that easily, what chance does Clare stand?] And of course, Raki gets all sniffly again, but I suppose this time it was justified. |
