Whats up everyone. I'm new here and this is my first post, so bear with me if I do something wrong ok. I just finished up Full Metal Panic "The second raid" and I was actually pretty pleased with this season overall. It has been my impression that the third season of FMP is the last one, but I recently read an article somewhere (I can't remember where) that said a fourth season was still possible. That the manga was still on-going in Japan or something like that. So I was wondering if anyone out there had any imput on this matter that they would like to share?

I'm pretty sure the manga as well as the anime is all based on purely written works, novels. I also believe there is more in the novels than what is currently out in anime form so it is possible there could be continuations but I don't think there is any official "yes there will be another anime season of FMP" as of right now.

Well according too animeboards a fourth season is being made and that was in 2006 I haven't heard any recent news but I would guess the japanese version will be out soon however I don't think I've seen anything on ANN about a fourth season at least not since febuary (when I joined). So I would just pay attention to the news on the front page of ANN. oh and welcome to ANN.

The writer of the FMP novels pretty much hinted that KyoAni are working on another FMP in ep 22 of Lucky Star which he wrote as well as eps 5 and 12.

From Zel on AnimeOnDvD forums in their Lucky Star thread

Quote:
Kona-chan and Kagami are talking about the light novel series that's been put to anime 3 seperate times with a new book volume coming out soon(FMP from KyoAni, and Kagami is established as a FMP reader who's probably anticipating the new book that's coming out either this month or next?) and then Kona wonders when the 4th adaptation's gonna happen.

The Fummofu and TSR director has directed Lucky Star eps 5-24 as well.

KyoAni schedule

Clannad (October 07)
Haruhi Season 2
Unnamed light novel adapation rumored to be FMP The 3rd Raid
If the above isn't FMP than FMP 3rd Raid would be after it.

I suppose that could be a hint, but I think that may be reading a bit too much into it.

In any case, KyoAni is has an "unknown" light novel adaptation coming up sometime in '08, and it could be a new FMP series. But there is no official word yet.

Thank you everyone that responded to my post, I really appreciate it!!! Also, that is excellent news. A new FMP season I can't wait. I hope they address the issues that were not resolved in "The Second Raid". Such as Tessa's brother, with those new human size arm slave's, and the rest of Amalgam. In closing thanks again for the info and reponding so quickly, I look forward to discussing more topics in the future.

Well those issues not being resolved as well as the imo crappy ending was a result of KyoAni having to "wing it" since there was no more novels to animate iirc.

Hopefully we don't get another subpar ending after a great set of 10-11 episodes.

What are you talking about? KyoAni didn't "wing" anything in Second Raid; it was a faithful adaptation of the novel. And there were at least two or three other novels out at that time, but the plan was to only animate Day by Day and proceed at a rate of one novel per season after that.

Hmm looks like I was misinformed, I had read somewhere that KyoAni had to make the ending for TSR because there wasn't enough novels out. Seeing as how lame the ending was (and I say this from someone who really enjoyed 1-12 a lot) I thought it was true. Though wasn't those twin sisters original KyoAni characters? I really haven't been reading up on the novel threads at A-S because I want to avoid spoilers.

If only this post in that earlier linked thread was done before I posted :\

Quote:
Currently, 9 main story volumes exist.

The original 24 episodes were based on the first 3 volumes.

The Second Raid episodes were based on the next 2.

That leaves 4 existing main story volumes and I've read that 1 more main story volume (possibly the last) is being written.

In other words, the existing main story anime covers only half of the main story volumes.

The 10 existing side story volumes contain 55 stories

Fumoffu covered 21, leaving 34 unanimated.

In other words, Fumoffu covers less than half of the side stories.

The future looks bright.

So one 26-39 episode series or maybe 2 TSR style series and another Fumoffu?

KyoAni made them girls. They were guys in the original novels. I think KyoAni made the right decision there.
