It's a well-made drawing, but I have some concerns. First is that they look almost too tall, like they're moving away from the more cartoony original art-style. Second is that they seem lifelessly dull and colorless. That feeling of zany, vibrant energy from the original show just isn't there.
This actually has me also wondering if/how they might update some of the humor, which did a lot of parodying of videogame and fantasy entertainment of its time. Hopefully it doesn't stray much from its roots, since the modern era of Japanese games seems a bit ways less "genki" than in times past.

Art evolution is inevitable when you're drawing the same characters hundreds of hundreds of times. Just look at the original artist's own designs for the sequel. They look much more like contemporary SD characters than the original 90s designs (in addition to being almost a full head taller), and it looks like the new TV style is trying to find a compromise between the two.
As the original series sits at a whopping 8 volumes, I have really high hopes for this adaptation just knocking the entire thing out without derailing into filler. Square-Enix has a really good track record with adaptations, so I'm not too worried.

Awww, it looks so cute~. I like that texture quality they added. I'm curious about how the animation will actually look, so interested in a PV.

So cute!
I want it to look like the start of the manga rather than how it looked by the end...
but either way, I'm so excited for this
