I'm gonna second that bit with Tohru holding small animals! Piggy-Kagura is the best, things are gonna get so much better when Kisa and Ayame show up.

I'm rather prone to tearing up, but I can't say this version of Fruits Baskets does that to me.

Dorito chins notwithstanding, I prefer this version mostly because Tohru's eyes don't take up 3/4 of her face. Also, while I haven't heard the new dub yet, Bailey's squeaky voice in the older version really gets on my nerves.

I first read the manga back in my early teens -read it many times over- and hadn't revisited in almost 10 years (never watched the original anime either). Still, the way the Hatori episode punched me in the gut took me completely by surprise. Even though I knew what was coming, I still found myself bawling through half the episode. There are many things about this series that haven't aged very well, but the emotional heights make the whole thing hold up even after all these years
