Good luck to the localization team on this one.

I watched the show when it was on Japanese TV (without subtitles of course) and it was pretty hilarious, but I'm actually relatively familiar with rakugo and 30% of the jokes still took rewatches for me to parse.
A subtitle track with copious notes could maybe _explain_ most of the jokes, but then the experience would be awful...

I feel like this is either a show best served where you know Japanese, or with a dub that literally rewrites 80% of the dialog and just does its own hilarious thing in the spirit of the original. A straight dub would be a parade of references no one understands and Japanese language wordplay that would become incomprehensible in translation...

It's a good show though! I especially liked the segments outside, which highlight a number of good tourist spots in Tokyo. As a (former) Tokyo-ite it was nice to see them going around like "my neighborhood".

Oh boy. Koji Kumeta's side-eyed take on Cute Girls doing Cute Things. I learned to appreciate this series a good deal more after seeing Showa genroku rakugo shinju, even though the two series are completely different. Glad to see it licensed for home video release.

Pleasant surprise. Between this and Zetsubou Sensei getting (re-)licensed, now I'm curious if someone's going to pick up Katte ni Kaizo.

What a nightmare this must be to localize. Good luck.

Interesting pickup. I just skimmed a little bit of the first episode and it seemed amusing, so I'll have to watch a bit and see if it's worth picking up. Looks good so far though =)

Maybe they can do a pop up notes option like Excel Saga had

Honestly though the anime is absolutely better than the manga in that it adds a lot of segments. Sure, those segments are specifically about Japanese locations and customs and might be completely uninteresting to a lot of people, but the rest of the content is just fairly light Kumeta being Kumeta.

Well, I didn't see this one coming at all. Like others, I wish whoever works on this release good luck. I'll look at importing this one for my collection.

I have to wonder how much the experience of making this show shaped the development of Shirobako.

A person who has not listened to even Shinchō live and in person is just a niwaka.
