They saved Yelena because Magath thought that Yelena might know where Eren was headed as the Founding Titan. One could say that his logic was feeble...but in this situation, if you thought an individual might have a piece of information that could increase your chances of saving the world, wouldn't you take it? Anyway, I believe Magath said so this episode. "We need clues no matter how small. That is why I wanted to capture her (Yelena)."
So no, it is not because "the author wanted a scammy character around for finger pointing". Dear god who is in the comment section on these streams? |

Wit Eren and Mikasa. Erens doing a very bad thing that has been attempted throughout the entire show, it was just never given its name. Because what Marley wanted to do to the inhabitants of the island was basically genocide. So there are a lot of people in this show who can't take a moral high-ground on this when they were happy when it was happening to someone else.
Mikasa and Eren are so interconnected that Eren is a core part of who she is. They both grew up together as family and him saving her as a child gave her a meaning to live. In a way it's actually quite beautiful, they are not family nor lovers, they're two half's of the same person. Killing Eren would be like killing herself. I get that it might be frustrating if you really like the character and want her to do the right thing, but that wouldn't be consistent with the character. |

Glad I read the manga first instead the other way around. Some of the characters dissed on this Ditch Yelena Aftershow (I don't like her either) actually redeem themselves in the manga story...and that scarf will have significance if the anime stays true to manga's ending.
