These novels are a prequel to Prototype actually, though I'd like to see a full version of Prototype someday.

This summary from the article is partially incorrect. Ayaka is the protagonist of Prototype, which would be set in 1999 if it existed. Saber's master in Fragments is her older sister, Manaka (shown in the preview image).
