Coming to Crunchyroll in 2029? Hopefully it's sooner this time.

I wonder if this means that this follows the light novel, not the manga. The light novel ended this year, and the manga hasn't, but I don't know where the manga is as I haven't read it.

100% sure that it's the LN, as the manga adaptation has only covered six volumes of the LN so far (in disorder—volume 6 was skipped, and volume 4 is the latest). To begin with, it's extremely rare for LN-based anime to be adapted from their manga adaptation.

Huh, so I guess I was wrong when I guessed the finale movie would be entitled Rascal Does Not Dream of his Girlfriend in the Santa Claus thread. Looking forward to it.

With only two novels left to adapt, the only question was whether they were going to get individual movies or be combined in a single one, and they went with the second option. Always nice to see a light novel series get a full adaptation with all installments handled by the same studio and main staff.

Will the real Touko Kirishima please stand up?

I'm glad that the series is going to get a complete adaption and we'll get to see Sakuta and Mai's story come to a conclusion. Albeit it will probably take a long while before it's legally available in English.

It's always good to see a light novel getting a complete adaption.

Braced yourselves as you may not be ready on what's going to unfold next. It's like everything is coming together for one big finale and I can’t wait to see this all on the big screen (assuming CR brings the movie to the West).

It's quite rare for a LN series to get a full adaption, isn't it?

Sister Venturing Out released in Japan in July 2023. Knapsack Kid was Dec 2023. Aniplex held a Fathom event at the end of March 2024 that featured both movies in US theaters, and then they appeared on Crunchyroll in June 2025. Dreaming Girl I think took much longer, though I suspect the licensing situation was different.

With that in mind, a several month gap after the Japan release might show it in US theaters late 2026, and streaming late 2027/early 2028. Could be a shorter timeline. I'm not really sure why the long delay was there in the first place when the TV show had no such gap, and I don't think the movies were screened with a dub.

Like with the two novels that comprised the Dreaming Girl movie, they are pretty much one story arc that couldn't really be split up. I was expecting this would happen since the beginning of the season given their pacing. Either a movie, or a TV special which Aniplex is sometimes inclined to do. But movie always seemed much more likely given how it's already been done in this franchise.

It’s Mai saying that she’s Touko Kirishima at the music festival at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouses, like Sakuta dreamed of when he was with Mai at that ryokan in Hakone on Christmas.

I hope this opens in early April 2026 so I can watch it in the theatre there.
