Ah, one of those "cute designs, serious/dark subject matter" movies.

Curious if the fact that it's depicting WWII from the Japanese side will prove controversial.

Hmm, the art style with this premise seems like a pretty cool combo to me.

Why would this film cause controversy when it’s adapted from a highly regarded Japanese WWII manga? It’s also made for a Japanese audience. Foreign war films have always portrayed Japan as the main villain. Even China alone has produced thousands of war films about it.

My main issue with these foreign war movies is that they often focus solely on Japanese characters, despite the fact that many Imperial Japanese soldiers were actually from Taiwan, Korea, China, and even Russia. I’m not joking look it up for yourself. You’ll be shocked to learn that a lot of Korean, Chinese, and Taiwanese men joined the Imperial Japanese army because they hated Western imperialism.

Didn’t South Korea even make a Netflix show, Gyeongseong Creature, where the protagonist collaborated with Japan during World War II but was still portrayed as the good guy just because he’s Korean? Even though he betrayed his own country?

Also, did you know that Imperial Japan had Korean, Chinese, and Taiwanese generals? Yet in most foreign war movies, there are no other ethnicities represented only is Japanese.

As a Spaniard, I feel that the title 'Guernica of Paradise' is inappropriate. This is a tale about soldiers in an army. Guernica was* a town that was almost obliterated in a bombing raid on market day; the majority of the victims were civilians.

* it still exists.
