In case people needed to be reminded that this story is about a GROWN ASS TEENAGER.
Getting kinda sick of the whole child detective angle, after how many years? Puberty keeps dragging it's ass!

It hasn’t even been a year in-story. Honestly I think the author always intended for the story to take place over a single year but didn’t expect the manga to still be going 30 years later.

I just find it weird that their choice for a 30th anniversary special is remaking an episode from 2015. Feels like there's a lot older stuff you could give the refresh to instead.

It's being created as a prequel to the Episode "ONE" Special which was made for the 20th Anniversary. Tying together anniversary specials like that makes sense in its own way.
Episode "ONE" even featured a scene following up directly from the Aquarium case, so making a unique special for the case to pair with it compliments what was already done.

This.
If you read the early cases in the series, there are references to things happening "a few months" later.
It's been no more than 6 months despite Christmas passing 3 or 4 times.
In regard to the MC being a child, Kids literally look up to him.
Yeah, it's a little mature to us in the west with the murders and whatever, but in Japan, Conan's an icon that you can watch with your family.

That makes sense and is actually kind of cool!
