What this article doesn't mention is that Imamori was harassed by tabloids for months about unverified rumors of an affair (hounding that possibly stems from her being part Filipina) and that the underage drinking was basically a pretext to cast her aside and stop the negative attention

Yeah I feel the context of the bigger picture is important in this. GozyuRed's suit actor announced he was leaving the show and suit acting in general due to illness and he planned to quit after Kamen Rider Gotchard but did Gozyuger as a favor to the producer. Very shortly after this a scandal broke out saying he and Maya Imamori were cheating on their partners with each other and this is the true reason he was leaving the show. This led to a lot of online drama and outrage. Imamori's social media presence dropped massively and she started getting removed from projects unrelated to Gozyuger in the following months. Her agency firing her for underage drinking and being removed from Gozyuger is just the last piece of the whole ordeal. A lot of people are speculating the underage drinking thing is likely a coverup for the bigger cheating scandal that's been going on for months before. It's been heavily speculated by news sites in Japan since September that Imamori's character would be written out of the show and leave the series.

While I think that's a bit harsh for underage drinking, I also think alcohol is evil and only leads to bad things so...

That makes a lot more sense. As I was reading the article I was wondering why, only to see underage drinking as the reason which felt weird. I know Japan is strict when it comes to drugs, but I was unaware of underage drinking being a good enough reason for them to go this far.

Remember Super Sentai is a kid's show, so the actors are probably under contract to avoid behaviours that would make them bad role models.

Yep, searching in japanese both of their names (the actor is Kosuke Asai, 41) I found a lot of articles covering that in September, and even the ones covering what has happened now mention too what happened months earlier. While I don't like to dig into these kinds of scandals, if you want more context about it here is an article about it (google translate will give you an approximate idea):

https://coki.jp/article/column/58702/

A lot of articles I read mention the reputation of Kosuke, that the wife made it public in a magazine, the age difference, that Maya may have been dating a soccer player in Japan's sub-20 selection, the gravity of the influence this scandal may have in a series made for kids, and speculations about sponsor losses. I didn't find anything related to her being half Filipina outside of some basic profiles in one or two articles nor in any comments reacting to it. That's what I got, but I searched this like half an hour, probably in other parts there's more info, but I think that's enough context to complement this situation.

I get the impression that normally this wouldn’t be a good enough reason for them to go this far, her agency just didn't want to bother with the trouble that comes from tabloids being out for her blood and wanted an excuse to toss her out. Many people even in Japan are lambasting her agency for the dismissal, with even other actors making remarks about how agencies don't guide or protect their young talents like they should anymore. (Though, of course, there are still people with the opinion "Well, she DID commit an infraction, so her agency is right to ruin her.")

The fact that Imamori is half-Filipina has caused her to be harassed for months by racists on social media, who've come up with all sorts of hateful rumors about her, so I am very hesitant to take any stories about infidelity seriously without concrete proof.

Underage drinking may seem like a small reason to fire someone, but that's kind of the problem: the Japanese media industry often puts ridiculously high standards of conduct on female performers and then proceeds to destroy their careers if they fail to meet them.

In any case, what a sad state of affairs for what is likely the final Super Sentai series. A complete crash-out of the storyline with the sudden removal of the main character for petty reasons, possible episode delays, and now for the first time since the early 80's there's a sentai team with no women. Great job, everyone.

Whoa, I didn't know that until I looked her up on RangerWiki, and you're right she is half-Filipina, so yeah, you could be right. Yeah, we need more detail into this. But I can confirmed via Reddit (supersentai sub-reddit) that she did wrote an apology post on her IG. So whether she was fired and edited out because of her underage drinking or is it because there maybe a possible fan backlash toward a bi-racial Japanese person, to make it worse, a female half-Japanese actress. So yeah, like you, I think we need more information and clarification.

There won't be articles about it beyond a vague mention in a bio because it's a community issue, not a news issue. As people have said, it's racism from fans (and outsiders), so it wouldn't be reported on. I don't think she would've been let go because of the fact she's half Filipino, but her drinking would probably be partially because of the stress of the racism and cheating claims.

For important additional context (not that it's come up in this thread yet but it could have later) this is not a Toei issue, in fact this debacle has caused Toei huge problems for likeness reasons, this is a problem with Maya Imamori's agency. Due to this Gozyuger has a very real chance of becoming lost media because Toei cannot show anything that has Maya Imamori's likeness in it. So its highly likely that Gozyuger will never get released on blu-ray, not have any future movies, specials, ect.

No sign of them pulling them yet which they have done before when something happened (see DBZ Kai-related stuff after Kenji Yamamoto got fired).

While alcohol is capable of making people do wild and dangerous things it’s not evil
