I don't know much about his other work but Film Z and Broly were two of the coolest anime films I've ever seen. Clearly the industry will be lesser without him. May he rest in peace.

One Piece wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't for his production overhaul starting Wano. People around him had only good things to say about him as a person and his leadership, he'll be missed. |

The man who saved Dragon Ball Super & One Piece and also kinda redeemed himself with the former after back-to-back duds with Saint Seiya Omega season 2 & Happiness Charge Precure (not saying they were his fault but Toei Animation's shows in general from 2013-2016 was filled with production issues all around, not just the well-known ones like early Super & Sailor Moon Crystal).

It can’t be overstated how much he did for One Piece. So many people began watching or returned to One Piece because of Wano.

I've been a fan of his ever since he directed the gorgeous third episode of the Saint Seiya: The Hades OVAs. It's a shame Nagamine had to split his time between the second year of Saint Seiya Omega and HappinessCharge Pretty Cure in 2014, which ended up being a disservice to both shows, but that just showed how much Toei relied on him, and his superlative work on Dragon Ball Super and One Piece speaks for itself. May he rest in peace.

Apparently, there is a curse related to ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly''. A lot of people have since passed away. The voice actors, Akira Toriyama and now Tatsuya Nagamine. May the latter rest in peace.

I hope Super isn't cursed. Because that show had early deaths since Hiromi Tsuru and Toriyama.

This is just so DROP DEAD DEVASTATING to the Pretty Cure fandom. Happiness Charge was one of the worst seasons but Heartcatch was just so effortlessly iconic. One of, if not THE BEST of all time. Introduced legions into the series and is to this day the best selling one. It took until Go Princess and Hugtto for the Trinity to be created.

What an odd thing to say considering he directed some of the best produced works. The only projects where he was held back were DBS, he was brought in to save the show, and Saint Seiya Omega S2, a continuation which initially wasn't planned and had a tight schedule. Other than that he was almost always given lots of resources and freedom. |

The man deserves tremendous respect for almost single-handedly raising the standard of quality at Toei after years of cutting corners. The improvements he brought to Dragon Ball Super were immediately noticed, and the way he turned One Piece around is just remarkable. The show had been at its lowest point animation-wise during the Dressrosa Arc, went through something of a transition during Whole Cake Island, and then almost the moment Wano began you could tell things had changed for the better in a significant way. Suddenly we were getting battle sequences with feature film quality animation and even standard episodes looked light years better than what we'd had only a couple of years before.
Not all of his works were successes, but Nagamine clearly believed in never settling for mediocrity and pushing shows to be the best they possibly could. And we lost him at a really young age. That's such a shame. |

Would be nice if at least one headline acknowledged his contributions to Precure instead of just the battle shonen he worked on. He was series director for the monolithic franchise's commercial and critical peak, and directed the Yes5 movie which birthed easily the most enduring movie characters in Precure's 20 year history with the Dark Pretty Cure 5

Oh no, that's awful.
 Nagamine and his team revitalized One Piece in a way I didn't think was remotely possible for a show that had been airing weekly for 20 years straight. Since Wano started the anime has been consistently putting out episodes with some of the best animation I've ever seen in a television production. It's made me fall in love with the series all over again. Rest in peace, and thank you for sharing your talents with the whole world. 53 is far too young.
(Man I will just...never understand how death announcements work in Japan. A man who headed production on two of the most popular franchises in anime history, watched by millions of people around the world, passed away months ago, and we're only just now hearing about it through an offhand comment his co-workers made on Twitter. That's insane to me.) |

53 is way too young especially by Japan standards.
After the slog that was Dressrosa arc I just started reading the manga and stopped watching. While I still read the manga, come Wano arc and anything Gear 5 Luffy you would think you are watching a movie not a tv show so of course I started watching again. And don't get me started on the Super Broiy Film because we will be here all day and night discussing that master class of animation even with the CGI. May he RIP. |
