I'm curious about this, cautiously optimistic as a Patlabor fan. At least they're getting Kenji Kawai back to do the music.

Literally every member of Headgear is involved in some way except Oshii, unsurprisingly.

Kazunori Itō alone should be enough, storywise. Glad he's aboard, too.

Oooh, I'd just about given hope on getting any news before the end of the year. Easily my most-anticipated project for 2026.

I want to be excited for this but I also hope this isn't going to take forever to finish like the Princess Principal movies. And will we actually see this licensed? I don't think we ever got that live action sequel licensed.

I didn't even know about this project until I saw this article. Hyped.

Nah. But live action licenses are pretty rare, so was anyone really expecting to see the Patlabor TV show licensed? On the other hand, regarding EZY, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t picked up.

Back when the anime got picked up again, not really but that has been changing in more recent years.
If there was a good time to pick it up, it would have been when Kraken picked up what they had of live-action GARO in 2016 since both are from the same licensor.

Was done on the cheap with minimal actual mech action but I really loved the live action Patlabor Next Generation series, the episodes had the feel of the original OVA/tv stories.
The original two lead's voice actors even star in a double episode which parodies Godzilla as reporters.
