I had recently seen an article about Juan Albarrán at https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/culture/manga-anime/20260121-305622/
A few days ago I visited the area associated with the Matagi Gunner story and stayed one night at Utto Onsen Matagi-no-Yu (打当温泉マタギの湯). As well as a Matagi museum, the onsen has quite a few pictures on the walls from the old manga Matagi Legends / マタギ列伝 manga by Takao Yaguchi (official site https://www.yaguchitakao.com/マタギ列伝/ ) and from a popular Akita-based fishing manga. The railway serving the area, the Akita Nairiku line ( https://www.akita-nairiku.com/en/ ), has had problems clearing snow this winter, so I couldn't ride on the Akita Nairiku this trip, but enjoyed riding on it on a previous visit and hope to again ride it to Aniai town to learn more about the area. [I had intended to both stay at the onsen and visit Aniai by the Akita Nairiku line last August but flooding in the area prevented it, see https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20250822/p2a/00m/0na/010000c ]. |
