i kinda liked sony's state of play. i'm excited for the god of war trilogy remake, excited to play death stranding 2 on pc, it was an solid conference.
...still reeling over the fact that just a FEW DAYS after that conference (like, yesterday) they decided to close down bluepoint games....like...why? guessing sony can't get enough of losing in the lIvE SeRvIcE ring... |

I'd like to think that CC2 has some big ideas for .hack if they are willing to self-publish.
Sony was riding high on that State of Play, only to close Bluepoint days later. That studio feels like a casualty of the execs at Sony going all in on live services, only to retreat and not know what they want. Bluepoint's claim to fame was being probably the best studio at remasters and remakes, and presumably the Demons' Souls remake is what convinced Sony to buy it in 2021. Only for them to waste a bunch of time on a live service game. The story is that after a year, Bluepoint hadn't made a pitch that Sony green lit. Given the history, and interest from players, I have to think Bloodborne remake was in there, and Sony declined it. Considering that Sony has been trotting out remasters of pretty dubious necessity more recently, it's hard to believe that there was nothing Bluepoint could have been assigned to do. MGS Collection 2 is nice to see, though I am disappointed that Portable Ops continues to be the odd one out. Considering that the collection itself is smaller than volume 1, I'm guessing that the work on MGS4 was intensive enough that Konami wasn't going to commit to both that and Portable Ops. Peace Walker was already remastered once, but not Portable Ops. Here's hoping it makes it onto a Volume 3 with Revengeance. On the plus side, the smaller size of Volume 2 meant that Konami isn't charging as much for it this time, but, of course, both Peace Walker and MGS4 have been delisted from the PS3 store now. |

New .hack is nice to see, even if it's a remake/reimagining. Hopefully they do it justice and it's not one of those "hah, gotcha, it's actually a sequel and not a remake" multiverse things that seem to be quite common
New Castlevania looks too much like the Netflix series and Dead Cells for me to get super interested. Have to wait to see if it's actually Castlevania or just Dead Cells wearing a skinsuit. I assume the other MGS games are coming in the 3rd Volume. I can't imagine how neutered the God of War remakes are going to be. You simply can't do those kinds of games in 2026. Even as early as 2013 you had people like Adam Sessler rallying about the games and how sexist they were. Kratos was one of the pinnacle examples of dudebro gaming of the 2000s so I agree it was also off putting as hell to see them turn him into a PlayStation Sad Dad with the newer games. Never bothered with those ones as a result. |

First of all, I thought nobody cared about Adam Sessler's opinions, I mean, I'm not from the U.S., I didn't watch the content he made, but eveytime he was mentioned in a gaming forum, everyone critized him. Secondly, I never thought of the God of War series as a "dudebro game", at least not in the same style as others like Call of Duty, GTA, Halo or Gears of War, you could argue that the GoW games were somewhat friendly towards young adult gamers who recently bought a PlayStation and wanted something action-packed, and I also never saw Kratos the same way as the "action genre hero guy" that were so prevalent during the late 2000s to mid 2010s gaming era. |

I really hope we get DOA 7 for Switch 2. The original Switch, the second best-selling console in history, somehow went its entire lifetime without a good 3D freedom-of-movement game. No Soul Calibur, no Tekken, no DOA, no Virtua Fighter, although at least the last of these has ben rectified for Switch 2 as of next month (and this weekend’s VF5 online beta has been a lot of fun to play with distant friends).
Although Koei Techmo was perfectly happy to make the DOA Extreme 3 cheesecake beach game available for Switch, so make of that what you will. |

Yes, but unlike SAO SIGN was actually well-written and good. SIGN was one of the first shows I discovered that I consciously recognized as "anime," and I still have a lot of affection for it. I actually have the first game from the PS2 quadrilogy (not the impossible to find later ones sadly), but the one time I tried to play it I bounced off pretty hard. I wonder what I'd make of it now. |

No kidding, but I'd also say that their State of Play, as usual, was them once again trotting out a bunch of third parties to do the work for them while their own library continues to wither. But we'll probably get to that next week (cutoffs!). Anyway... -.hack//: Ah, now that's name I haven't heard in awhile. I also have to say .hack// made sure that you didn't need to engage with the whole franchise if you couldn't engage with the anime or vice versa, mostly because they were exploring different aspects of the setting which made it feel bigger unlike a lot of franchises that try to expand into "spinoffs" and just turn into homework to understand anything, as well as shrinking everything and making it feel so small. Not naming names or anything coughmcucoughkingdomheartscough. Anyway, cool to see it back -Damon and Baby: Neat -GOW: The problem with the original trilogy was that it never could decide a tone of "is Kratos right or wrong?" and not in that classic Greek tragedy sense, but in a "we didn't actually script this out properly." Norse era coming down on the obvious "Kratos was wrong by the gods, but in his anger became no better than them" was long overdue in Valhalla, but also making it clear "you can't just shame yourself forever, you actually have to WORK to be better." So it's gonna be interesting if they actually do something storywise to reconcile that or they just go straightforward. -MGS: Finally freeing the thing from PS3 jail. Also, funny how the new collection has Ghost Babel of all things. Anyway, pachinko jokes are officially over, time to just move on from the "F Konami" years -Castlevania: Ah, to ring in the 40th anniversary (now to see how Dragon Quest, Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda announce theirs). Wouldn't be surprised if they roll some stuff from the animated series like the Speakers into the canon since they're clearly using that as a baseline for the style. Also, I'd better be hearing Norio Wakamoto in the Japanese language track -DOA: Not surprised to see this after Ninja Gaiden 4. Guess Team Ninja decided to go back to their roots after nearly a decade of Nioh. The SIGN anime was really good but it also had some weird pacing for a show of that time. In my small anime club in high school while it was airing, we enjoyed in the first couple episodes so decided to watch it and up to episode 6 we loved it. The issue became we so did not like episodes 7 through 9 that we dropped it which we'd never done before. After it ended I went back and finally decided to continue it and episode 10 got me immediately back on board and blazed through the rest so I find it ironic that if we had just watched 1 more episode (it hadn't aired at the time) we probably would've kept watching. I played the 1st 3 games and loved them before I went on hiatus from consoles and the 1st of the GU games, so this announcement just reinforces how much I need to finish up this series as I really liked them all, just it was much harder to play series like this for me back then. |

Considering how far Raiden can go in cutscenes from Guns of the Patriots, it would be awesome if Platinum made his cutscenes playable just like they remade a minigame from Snake Eater. Honestly, the cutscene ratio of Guns of the Patriots way too much and making Raiden playable would reduce the eyecandy and instead make the hype people loved in 4 be playable.

Man, one of the coolest games ever made was Tenchu Z. If you and a partner wanted to (sort of) open-world a ninja stealth game, it had 4-player online capacity, movement that put a some of the Assassin's Creed games to shame, and some really fun and interesting ideas for interacting together. Blows my brain out of my skull that it was basically the last time anything of that nature was attempted. Tenchu Z would have been genius on PC with larger maps, more tools and scenarios, and some way to make custom missions & objectives....

Pretty much the only thing that mildly caught my attention from that State of Play was MGS4, because I've always wanted to play it, but the rest was a snoozefest.
Also, please Bandai, can we get Fires of Liberation off the 360 jail? Literally the only game in the franchise I've never played.
Nah, God of War was absolutely on the juvenile side of things, gratuitous nude women and sex minigames on all 3 games, add that to the ultra-violence, the gravelly voiced, manly man protagonist and it's pretty obvious the franchise was always aimed at the "dudebros". |

Regarding Beast of Reincarnation, it was confirmed in an interview that only a few Game Freak staff are working on it. It's mostly being created by another studio, kind of like Nier Automata I guess?

You’re not missing much if they took out the sex minigames. Or they cover up the Poseidon Princess’s exposed breast.
I mean the Pachiko jokes were dumb even then if anyone bothered to reconcile the fact they were already making money in that business before they decided to put Castlevania and their other ips on ice.
Not when you see the game’s mixed reviews. And the game sales probably not being too good not helped by the fact it was an Xbox exclusive for some reason. |
