All the other additions I can at least understand but the idea of playing games at 3x speed is so weird to me like when I hear how people watch anime at 2x speed. The constant sped up and off-key music and characters zooming across the field zooming seem like it'd completely take me out of the world and feeling of a game. I wonder if it's a generational thing like how I see those "60fps" edits of anime openings on YT and they just look so awful to my boomer eyes but it's natural for kids?

since i've been buying these ports with these added buffs, i'm kinda sad that they've made Knight of the round table useless
In OG FF 7 i was 10 at the time and it was the only way i could beat the final boss >.< |

Maybe my brain is broken, but the way the tagline is written on the main site seems to accidentally imply that "autosave" is free only for those who have the 2013 port.
"Updated version with 3x speed, battle enhancements, autosave is free for owners of 2013 port" Or is this a me problem? |

I'd say there should be an "and" before autosave since it's the last bullet point in the list but that's just me. Otherwise no I read it as the update is free for people who already had the 2013 version Glad to hear they didn't change anything about the story though. I know that was a worry some people had given the way these ports usually go. |

It has more to do with how slow paced movement was in those games, as well as dialogue and combat speed for the constant random battles you get while walking around the field than actually playing the game at 3x or 2x the speed. If square actually invested more in this, they could have added a "bike" a la pokemon, and added individual increased speed for battle animations and dialogue speed, but it's easier to just do a 3x speed on everything (safe cutscenes and story dialogue moments) just like emulators did back in the day (and still do). I also don't get how people watch a show at 2x the speed, be it anime or otherwise. |

If I recall correctly, unlike in emulation, doubling speed in ports like this one does not affect the audio. The music keeps playing at normal speed while the rest of the game goes faster. They might also do something with sound effects like skip them too, but I'm not sure about that.
There are many reasons why someone would want to speed through things in an old game. Maybe the random battles are tedious. Maybe you are traversing a screen for a fifth time. Maybe this is your tenth playthrough and you want to get to your favorite parts faster. It's a reasonable option to have. |

Apparently, this version is a disaster.

Every time Square-Enix releases a thing, somewhere in this world there’s a dedicated monkey’s paw curling in on itself, slowly transforming into diamond.

They’ll still be tedious if your RPG has an obnoxious encounter rate like the first Earthbound Game. |

Giving me another excuse to play one of the greatest games of all time again? Don't gotta twist my arm!
It's already getting patches and the average user review has been bumped up to Mixed. And while it shouldn't be incumbent upon fans to fix a corporation's product, I know the modders are already getting to work. |

Chrono Trigger was one of the worst launched games when it came to Steam with bugs and ugly UI and features but it (eventually) got patched enough (over like 4 years) to end up becoming the arguably de-facto version way to play it (it's only missing the monster raising mini-game from the DS version which honestly I never even bothered with and you don't have to put up with the DS's atrocious menu and UI so I consider that an acceptable trade)
I guess the difference here is 7 was already on PC for over a decade so re-doing it to a mess was entirely pointless. Honestly if I ever do decide to re-play it I'd probably just emulate the original release to go for the RetroAchievements since even the original PC release had issues. |
