Hima-Ten was like the prototypical Jump romcom complete with the designated love interest who is significantly less interesting than the other heroines, only with the caveat that the designated love interest is also pushed to the sidelines for 90% of the manga. I was shocked it lasted as long as it did lol

That's funny to me. spoiler[Honoka may be "significantly less interesting" as a love interest than Himari, but I was actually relieved that Tenichi accepted her confession over both of the other girls. He and Honoka are well-matched and were interested in each other since the beginning. Himari already has a lot on her plate as the supermodel teen CEO of a major cosmetics brand and adding a relationship with a mild-mannered guy like Tenichi, following his own chosen path, was always going to be unfair to both of them.] I thought the manga did a good job treating everybody's feelings with compassion and intelligence, never falling into the trap of cheap wish-fulfillment. spoiler[Or maybe I'm just a sucker for the childhood friend archetype. (I always prefered Tifa to Aerith.)] spoiler[That time skip in the last couple pages was kinda lame, though. I prefer when a story stands its ground and ends with its narrative, instead of trying to reassure the audience that everybody got a convenient happily ever after.] |

Yeah, and Himari isn't the designated love interest of the manga. It's the character with no chemistry with the lead who also is barely in the manga compared to the other two but was still the obvious outcome from Ch 1 Though thinking on it further, it's no surprise the manga hit a wall and then just sort of limply ended. Because once it stalled long enough with the characters who have actual sauce, all that was left was the main relationship that was boring as hell and had nowhere to go, so why not just resolve all of it in 3 chapters or so lmao |

See, I wouldn't say the outcome was obvious from Chapter 1. At least, I was surprised at who actually won. |

Note: I put the whole thing below as spoilers because it discusses the end of the manga.....
spoiler[First of all, I would've liked it if they took the time to let the relationships between Tenichi and the three girls cook a little longer. Kanna was there for the readers who liked big boobs, she didn't give anything else to the relationship aside she liked him "because he was nice and helpful". I think if given the time Himari would've been the better option for Tenichi; a detailed oriented person like himself would've been a big asset to Himari's company, IMO. Choosing Honoka at the end "because she was the one that helped him the most" reminds me of what Fuutaro reasoned behind choosing Yotsuba in QQ. I do think Himari helped indirectly a lot by helping him grow as a person, which isn't necessarily quantifiable like helping with exam prep.] I think the mangaka did a good job with the manga for the first 2/3rds of it, as the characters are established and grow with each other, but transitioning to the endgame is where they stumbled. |

Good riddance. What an absolutely nothing manga.
The main character was utterly uninteresting, begging the question of why the girls even liked him, and on top of all of that, he didn't even get with the girl that would have facilitated him being the house husband he's meant to be. Never mind the fact the manga is named Himaten. Utterly boring slop. |

It sure sounds like you just read the first and last chapter to come up with this slop of a comment. It's also actually called Hima-Ten!, with the dash foreshadowing that they never get together.

Huh, I ended up bouncing off this one when it looked like they were going to keep introducing girls and while I liked the MC well enough, it felt a bit cloying. I'm actually glad to see he ends up with Honoka over Himari.
Also it's REALLY funny to me that people say they don't see the appeal of the lead. I'm gay as heck and struggling to summon the name of the kid to mind but the idea that straight women WOULDN'T go for a guy who is actually a proficient housekeeper betrays a deep lack of understanding of women and their tastes. And how low the bar is. |

On the reason why spoiler[I'm going to defend the reason why. Don't get me wrong, any of the girls Iemori could have ended up with would have been supportive and caring partners, but I think the fact that he singled out Kanai's desire to help him is important. Relationships are partnerships, each person splitting the load and doing what the other cannot, and the whole reason Kanai fell for Iemori in the first place is because she wanted to be that support for him. Their first interaction was because she wanted to help him. Her core motivation to be with him was seeing Iemori as a person who put others first and wanting to be someone who put him first and made it so he had less of a burden to carry. I think Iemori realized that and that was what made him choose Kanai even setting aside his longstanding crush. Personally, I was rooting for Himari and think he had the best dynamic with her, while having the weakest with Kanai, but I can't take issue with the ending because that is a good reason to end up with your partner. ] |

I don't know how the Jump surveys were doing, but the ending being rushed the way it did had a very "This series is trailing off in the surveys, wrap it up - you have X chapters," vibe |

The only thing we knew was the sale figures and the table of contents and none of them screamed "super success, I want 20 volumes of them!", but still, when there are other romance series, even "ecchier" in Shonen Jump and Hima-Ten remained for so long, we can admit that there was some following. More or less like Kill Blue, I guess. |
