Hmmm maybe a new Goemon game in the future?

Rhythm Heaven Groove will stay on top for another 2 weeks then Splatoon Raiders will take the top spot is my prediction.

Goemon collection did pretty decent. Always loved the games. Dunno if the new collection is censored or not. Doubt we'll get a new game though unless it's a mobile title or something cheap...

Minecraft just refuses to leave these rankings lol. It's been years and it's still selling copies every week.

Excellent debut for Rhythm Heaven, and I'd say Star Fox has decent hold.
Now that I think of it, I didn't mention this in last week's ranking, but I do wonder how Sony's recent decision of halting the production of physical discs is going to affect the weekly rankings as well as PlayStation's game sales in Japan as a whole. Don't know how Japanese gamers reacted to the news in regards to the apparent end of physical disc production for the PS, it's said that Japan is a market that vastly prefers physical media, but looking at the numbers for some PS game sales in the last 5 years, there has been a huge decline in physical sales, though I don't know if part of the problem stems from the fact that the PS family of consoles has drop in popularity in Japan, it is said that most of the PS5 sold in Japan came from overseas re-sellers.

Considering how hard it was to get a PS5 in the early days I would say that last part is true. You also bring up a fantastic point how these charts will be affected since these are for physical sales.

I think since Sony dropped the Vita was when their popularity started to decline. There are rumors they going to do something again but It'd be real hard to put PS5 guts into a small enough form factor for the Japanese care. And I think they are crazy (Microsoft too) when the world economy is in bad shape when it comes to tech products. Me thinks they should both cancel/postpone their new machines and we all have another long 10 year console cycle like the 360 and PS3 days.

There's been some rumors that Sony is developing a new handheld console in order to compete against Nintendo in the Japanese market, some claim that its specs will be closer to the PS6, which sounds kind of absurd, and if Sony is abandoning discs I don't think they'll opt to use game cards similar to the ones the Vita used, especially considering that most third-party games on the Switch 2 come in Key Cards, which leads me to believe that it could be a digital-only portable console, which raises a lot of questions in regards to its storage, considering how big file sizes are these days.

These systems are likely already too far along in development that they can’t stop them altogether.

Microsoft in particular can’t afford to stop development of the their next system given their decision to release two versions of the last system was something of a questionable decision that has affected games released on the platform.
