Yeah, too bad Macross Frontier has a lot of the same issues. Not that it's not enjoyable, but I was definitely expecting a lot more in terms of characterization and storyline. Instead it feels like SDF Macross Redux.
Hence why I don't lend any credence to anybody who uses the word in their opinion on anything. Buzzwords don't mean anything. They might as well be saying "this show as an I don't know what to call so I'll insert a word with infinite possible definitions and leave everyone else the work of interpreting what I mean". It's a word people use when they're to damn lazy to actually come out and say what they mean. Besides "trainwreck" is basically the calling card of a Code Geass troll at this point to me. Anyway, if anything spoiler[ "Bringing Nunally back" has only enhanced the emotional turmoil Lelouch and Suzaku have gone through. We all saw (I hope) how Lelouch had to to lie to her and how he was clutching his chest afterword and Suzaku had to give him a pep talk to get him to stick to the plan. It basically took a lot out of him to have to lie to her, which I might add is something he promised he'd never do lest he swallow a thousand needles. That's kind of what he's being forced to do right now as she fired the Freya on his army. And no she doesn't support Schneizel's cause or the nuking of innocents and she hasn't become an antagonist and/or evil. She supports putting an end to what at the moment she believes is her brother gone nuts and honestly, does she even need Schneizel to tell her that? For all intents and purposes just listening to what he said during the UFN meeting at Ashford makes him sound like a tyrant....you know, the whole bath the world in blood in a way that will make the massacre princess look like nothing. And she did give him a chance to try and explain himself. She asked if he was doing it for her or if he had a reason and he just totally shot her down in an attempt to stick to the plain even though you could see from his shaking hands that he wanted to be honest with her and tell her all about his plans etc. As for her actions after that talk, I doubt she even knows just how dangerous Freya actually is and is just taking Schneizel's word at face value that it will bring the battle to a swift end and save lives from Lelouch's war that he appears to have launched on the UFN. She may have gotten some experience in handling the politics of Area 11, but she still knows nothing about war. Like during the 2nd battle of Toyko she's putting her faith in Schneizel on this one. Though it's definitely a bad idea.... I expect some changes by next episode and the momentum to shift back in Lelouch's favour with Nunally and the Black Knights breaking off with Schneizel. If not and they continue on their current course, then I'm going to have to ask some questions about their characterization and just what the heck they all think they are doing. For now I'm pretty sure it's the heat of the moment that is dictating the current alliances and the fact that nobody except Lelouch, Suzaku, C.C and his inner Britannian circle know just what Lelouch really has planned (not even the viewers) , nor do they know what Schneizel really has planned either (although at least the viewers get the priviledge of knowing that one right off the bat). ] So in short, I think Lelouch's unwillingness to compromise in his current plans and to let people inside his head yet again (his worst character flaw if you ask me) is the cause of the current alliance situation and not so much anybody elses fault. They gave him a chance to speak, I know most people don't see it, but they did. However, after episode 18 and the spoiler[apparent death of Nunally] he's been like man with a death wish who is looking for a way to die after he accomplishes his secondary goal of making a better world in his minds eye. He seems to be trying to not drag everyone else down with him other then the people who he thinks deserve it, and that goes for spoiler[Nunally] too this latest episode. Reject all who would try to get close to him (and really, he's pretty guilty if you ask me, though he's been exacerbating his situation on purpose ever since episode 18 by not sticking up for himself or trying to defend his cause) even if it makes them his enemy for the greater good. Kind of depressing if you ask me....but still I think the current scenario is far better and intriguing and makes more sense then people are capable of seeing. It's just not your typical ending scenario. No final battle in a mecha series with the expection of perhaps Ideon and Dunbine has ever felt quite so hopeless in terms of the characters getting a happy ending. Taniguchi claims that Lelouch will get a satisfactory one though, and I can still see that working. |

What issues does Frontier share with R2? You don't see Frontier pull plot twists out of its ass every episode to try and top the last one. You can say the support cast didn't get enough exposure but it's on the level of Code Geass season 1 there which is fine. Now if a s2 for Frontier comes out which introduces 10-15 more people and it still focuses on the main trio and gives the old and new support cast fudge all development than you might have a point. Alto, Sheryl and Ranka develop and regress constantly throughout the series, there is no Kallen will develop for the next 10 episodes while C.C gets nothing and than it's all C.C while Kallen is captured bullshit going on in Frontier. How much of Frontier have you seen up to anyway? You still think that SDF redux comment flies? Surely you haven't seen up to 24? |

I don't see why any of what you mentioned about R2 with regard to which characters get developed the most and at one point is a huge issue. When it's their turn the characters get the spotlight, when it's not they aren't focused on as much. This is a problem how. Unless your a die hard fan of a certain character and believe they must have the spotlight at all times (which is sort of the case with Kallen and C.C shippers) then it shouldn't be a huge problem. And if people want to make a big deal out of third tier characters like Dorothea and Monica getting killed of then that's really their problem. So here way have yet another "this is a trainwreck" argument that is really underwhelming. Funny thing is that if people would just tone down the almost comedic and forced levels of bile when it comes to critiquing this show and just settle with "expectations that fell short" I would pretty much agree with them. Cause I am in that camp believe it or not. Problem is people keep overshooting the mark and it seems like a react to R2 in the most negative way possible competiton out there. That's why I disagree. There's solid evidence that the show has it's shortcomings like any, just not enough to convince me of some disaster plotline that results in an unwatchable and totally incomprehensible show like most seem to be claiming is the case with R2. |

Does anybody know where can I find the art pieces from Code Geass R2 first and second ending songs? High resolution and without credits would be preferred.
Btw, does anybody have all the chibi pictures shown at the end of the show too? |

The first EP is here: http://www.designchronicle.com/memento/archives/code_geass_r2_ep01.html
The second EP is here: http://www.designchronicle.com/memento/archives/code_geass_r2_ep13.html Scroll to the bottom of the blog post for the images. Most of the images have credits at least partially visible, unfortunately. IIRC, the reviewer or a commenter mentioned that there are almost always credits on the pictures, so it's hard to get them clean without having it released as clean on a DVD (no idea if the Japanese DVDs are out yet). |

Just finished ep24 and gotta say everything felt so different, for the better. Much better in fact. It has been many episodes since Zero displayed any of his strategical brilliance and it completely made this ep one of the best imho. Every scene actually pushed towards the final climax next week. no more cutting and chasing that didn't lead anywhere. I couldn't be more relieved that the ending fills out the voids left by earlier episodes.
but one thing kind of went over the top spoiler[Cornelia and Guilford is still alive?! wth! Guildford the guy who was engulfed by freya turned out unscathed so i guess being gunned down by a machine gun was a blow over. all they have to do now is bring back shirley (which i really do think might happen next week) and we'll be back to R1 ep1. oh man... sigh. ] Last edited by kayoubi on Thu Sep 25, 2008 9:41 am; edited 5 times in total |

spoiler[Code Geass Rule: The likelihood that one will survive is proportional to the amount of trauma sustained. Single gun shots are especially lethal. Examples: Mao - riddled with bullets, SURVIVED Cornelia - riddled with bullets, SURVIVED Guilford - caught in WMD blast, SURVIVED Mao(2) - single gun shot wound, DIED Euphemia - single gun shot wound, DIED Shirly - single gun shot wound, DIED Diethard - single gun shot wound, DIED HARD] this explains everything Last edited by BladeDragoonZETA on Mon Sep 22, 2008 1:35 am; edited 1 time in total |

Well, this last episode was jam-packed with some awesome individual mech fights. spoiler[How the crap are Cornelia and Gilford still alive though? Alright that's good and all I gues since I liked them but definitely not all that credible.] Anyway, next episode we should get spoiler[another Suzaku/Kallen showdown which should be awesome. Also Lulu has to try and resolve things with Nunally, who can now see again apparently.]

Episode 24 was very good, there is a lot to wrap up for 25 though. spoiler[I liked the explination Lelouch gave about his, Schneizel, and Charles motivations being corrilated with the future, present, and past. That one statement cleared up some of the confusion I had. Also, it seems like he is more like his old self, and is letting his "mask" slip a bit.
Diethard's death was well done, I enjoyed how Lelouch defeated Schneizel with his mind, and not with some major new superweapon. Ok, the Corneilia/Guilford scene is a bit unbelievable, but Cornelia has pretty much been unimportant the whole season, so at this point it doesn't matter much either way. Kallen Vs. C.C. I've always been more a fan of Kallen, but I did enjoy the exchange, and how C.C. has become more honest with herself. I am curious to see if Kallen takes out Suzaku next episode, but as long as she doesn't die pointlessly I won't be too upset if Suzaku makes it out of this alive. Funny that the ejection systems on the nightmare frames have begun to function correctly again. Jerimiah Vs. Anya should be interesting. I'm betting she is still under some form of Geass. I got a laugh out of the talk between Rivals and Milley, "We are pretty much unimportant at this stage, but here we are." Nunnaly opens her eyes. This one thing, was the #1 reason why I didn't think she died when she was supposed to. At this point I think it will be the discussion between her and Lelouch that decides if Lelouch makes it out of this alive.] R2 is by no means perfect, but I still think it's been one hell of a ride. |

Spoiler tags just to be careful.
spoiler[What geass was it that made Nunnally lose her eyesight again? I remember that it had something to do with Charles, but his geass only affects memories, so I don't really understand how that happened. You can understand my obvious confusion for the closing remarks of ep. 24.] |

You make a very good point there, and it is one that I have pondered for what, almost a month now? There's always the possibility of other spoiler[Geass' emanating from the Geass Order, but I thought they said it was Charles himself who Geassed her.] You're not the only one in the dark here. The reaction I've been coming across time and time again for this episode is some version of "Sunrise just trolled us". I don't want to be trolled, more like enthralled. One final note; whoever said spoiler[Nunnally would be the final boss] deserves to congratulated. That was some pick. |

Did Charles himself say he cound only alter memories? I guess that would be one way of explaining it, or rather avoiding an answer. You surely do have a point there. |

spoiler[ it's a Mind over matter thing; she was (through memory manipulation) led to believe her legs were paralyzed when her mother was Killed. (and her eyesight lost because of the trauma of the event) I don't think she's fully undone the Geass yet though as only her eyesight was proven to have returned] |

The way I see it spoiler[Nunnally's eyesight is perfectly fine, but Charles manipulated her memories into believing otherwise. In other words, his Geass simply inserted the memories of a traumatic experience, creating a psychological block which she was able to overcome recently. There were also some indications earlier in the series that her blindness was psychological in nature, so the only real "twist" here was what really caused it (what Charles did and not having actually seen Marianne die). I'm not sure about her legs, but the same explanation could apply.] That aside, there were only a couple of things in 24 that really gave me any of sense of being "trolled" by Sunrise (namely spoiler[Guilford's survival, as opposed to Cornelia's which was a little more ambiguous even if still a cheap plot device]), but not the episode as a whole. Then again, that's been my position for a while now, shouldn't surprise anyone really. |
