Remember a few years ago when ADV Manga cancelled releasing the rest of ARIA and we have huge arguments about it? Looks like we'll have to do the same thing again - this time, aiming a direct hit at TokyoPop:

TokyoPop in Trouble?

Perhaps the combined fallout of the current recession and Borders' financial troubles might be the reason behind TokyoPop's current condition. Or is this more evidence of the decline of the publisher that's been predicited for the last couple of years?

In any event it seems that poor ARIA can't catch a break. First ADV dumps it and now TokyoPop apparently. It appears that Akari and the folks at Neo-Venezia will never find a permanent home.

Seeing as you were the original poster of this, my ideas of this being an overreaction post vanished.

All of my current TP series finished up last year (NHK, Dragon Head), so no worries here. But damn, it really blows to see Aria get screwed over, again.

On a separate note, I cannot believe that I'm seeing Initial D among the list of canceled titles. Shocked

Oh hell no, VB Rose was a fabulous title!! I LOVED that title.

Great.

What a terrible list for manga buyers. There's a lot of good titles here.

Is this because of low demand? Would it make a difference if i ordered it from Amazon, just so they know theres someone willing to buy it?

I haven't been able to even find volume 3 of Aria myself. Which really sucks as this series has just sucked me in and I need more heh. It's just so clam and refreshing compared to so many other titles out there currently. I hope with the tv series being brought over that someone else might deem the manga worth picking up...again. I'm also sad to see the Getbackers Infinity Fortress go. being a GB fanboy this saddens me, but I'd rather see this sub-story go then the main one especially since they're just getting ready, if I'm not mistaken, to get to the Voodoo Children Arc and finally deal with Babylon Tower.

Great Mad Now I have to wait even longer for Initial D Vol 34. This is reason I stopped downloading licensed manga.

The titles aren't canceld and the news-item concerning this with an update from TP was posted less than a week ago!

This was my first response upon seeing this:

It's so sad to see Aria getting cancelled again. It's one of the best slice-of-life series out there, and I'm going to miss it. But maybe Del Rey'll pick it up? They did such an excellent job on translating other titles (especially Genshiken!) that maybe they'll save Aria.

Read the Ginrai linked to, guys! The titles aren't cancelled, they're delayed. Aria Vol. 5 will still come out, and it will still come out from Tokyopop. It was cancelled by the distributor until the final release date is set.
