Were there any DVD releases of Pokemon un-edited? Because I read in anime insider spoiler[that 4Kids editited alot out(i.e. the part where professer oak sticks a gun to Ash's(satoshi)head.] And did they include the original japanese version? Just curious.

Because there's not enough of an audience for uncut, subtitled Pokémon for it to be profitable. Simple as that.

Exactly, it was huge a few years back... with kids. Kids who don't really care if it's edited or not and wouldn't be able to read the subtitles anyway (or atleast read them fast enough to be worth doing).

No. There's no market for them. A small handful of teen/adult Pokemon purists aren't worth the (tens of? hundreds of?) thousands of collars it would take to manufacture & distribute an alternate subbed & unedited version of the series.

I'd really like to see some of the show uncut, but I don't really mind it dubbed. I enjoy the dub a lot, and doubt I'd like the original any better. I wish though that they would have the original Japanese version on at least the movies. I'll just search for raws to download if I ever get intrested enough.

I don't know why they don't publish them. I think if it was edited as much as you say, then the originals would be more attrcting to an older audience.

Pokemon, like Yu-Gi-Oh is a show designed for the 6-10(YGO may skew as high as 14) set. It's not a show for adults no matter how you want to spin it. Japanese shows are a good 2-3min longer than American ones, so by that very nature they have to cut, or use time-compression techniques. While we're at it, CCS and Sailor Moon aren't adult shows either.

I actually like Yu-Gi-Oh, but I just wish they would leave the normal stuff in. It really sucks how they cut out all the good stuff, like episode, a guy holds a gun to to another guys head, but in the edited version, he is just point his finger.
Well, I think that Yu-Gi-Oh is more then just a kid show.[/spoiler]

Your subjective opinion doesn't matter in the face of the objective truth. It's a kid's show. The cuts come from adapting it from a Japanese kid's show to an American kid's show.

Yeah, but their are drastic differences between Japanese and American Edits. You can't use the arguement "it's a kid show, so the edits stay" as a blanket on the show as a whole.

What is considered kosher for one, is taboo in the other.

spoiler[Seeing James putting a gun to a Game Warden's head or Dressing in Drag ]in the Japanese Version, vs. calling Riceballs "doughnuts" or changing Japanese customs to suit American mindsets.

You can, however, use the argument, "4Kids has the rights and I don't and there's not enough of a market to justify putting out a purist-grade version of Pokémon, so the edits stay."

Even for the handful of people who do want uncut Pokémon, it's not like they realistically can do anything about it besides buying the Region 2s... it's difficult to even find fansubs of Pokémon, at least for the TV episodes.

On top of that, Nintendo doesn't want Pokemon available in anything but the 4Kids version in the US. They "don't want to confuse kids" or so a Nintendo rep told me.
