Every time I see someone type out Conan, I instinctively think "Conan the Barbarian."

And how do ya like that. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Lagann-hen couldn't even make the Top 10. Sure, its predeccessor Gurren-hen didn't make it either, but at least it got an honorable mention for a higher per-screen average at its debut than that week's #1 20th Century Boys. In other words, it's lack of exposure that killed it. Apparently, Gurren Lagann isn't quite the phenomenon in Japan it is over here. There it seems to be just another anime series...

The question is, as much as we decry fansubbing, would Gurren Lagann have gotten as much exposure in America as it did if not for fansubbing? Of course, it owes a bit of gratitude to the prior success of Neon Genesis Evangelion and FLCL, but it seems like Gainax is very underrated in Japan.
