The last panel in this bothers me. I don't know about other cons/states, but Sakura-Con follows Washington State law, which requires the tax identification and business license, and has for quite a few years. It always seemed to me that Paola was a veteran of cons and such, so wouldn't she already know about those?

Usually only the bigger cons actually make it a rule that you have to get them. I believe if I'm not mistaken Technically regardless of what the con requires The Law would suggest you need one anyway, but usually goes under the radar so to speak~

I think the joke is that she is willing to gear up to face and fight in the crazy no holds bar competition (she now has splints on her arms) to get registered but doing paper work to satisfy the financial bureaucracy is a whole other kettle of fish.

Thanks for the comic Kiriska!

This tax edict scenario affects internet selling also. Ebay now looks at money received for shipping from item buyer as additional seller income and it now appears on a 1099-statement with the other income categories.

Welcome to the new age of Big Brother and its free-spending denizen of agencies.

Sure am glad to live in a state without sales tax.

Don't know of any cons here in DE, though.

In Ontario, Canada you can't even apply for a vender's permit unless you make at least $30,000. Under the GST rules you could but under HST you can't since you wouldn't have anything to declare. I did get one a few years ago but I don't know if it's still valid under the HST rules.
