Which of the new shows (Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins) did you like better?

I preferred DMW. It had a more interesting plot. I at first thought the police were stupid for finding the lead guilty until the faked video came up. My only problem was that they made Tamaki too obvious of a villain. It's like if you took Koichi Shido and made him into a lawyer.

CS seemed more like a Gatchaman/Megaman offspring moping. I'm not sure if it gets better, but I'm sure the whole series is on Netflix, so maybe I'll find out.

That Casshern was also by Tatsunoko, the Gatchaman comparison isn't too far off. I'll admit that Deadman Wonderland is more captivating in its first episodes, but you'll see how it goes. Casshern Sins is a journey anime with some fighting, but it's much easier to compare it to Wolf's Rain, Kino no Tabi, A Wind Named Amnesia, Haibane Renmei, or Kaiba than it is to the 93 OVA, Tekkaman, or Detanator Orgun.

I don't like robot or post-apocalyptic shows, so I won't be watching Casshern Sins. I watched the first episode and it was interesting, but it didn't seem like something I would enjoy.
I really enjoyed Deadman Wonderland. I like mindlessly violent show (which I've heard is what it becomes). Judging by the first episode, I'm going to enjoy it a lot. Ironically, I just finished a good book about a boy who was framed for murder and sent to a hellhole of a prison, so the premiss alone would have made it enjoyable.

While this is pretty accurate, I have a feeling its where the anime begins to fail since the impression I get from the first episodes was that the story was not supposed to be "mindless" at all. Actually the thing that initially really drew me in was that the violence did not strike me as gratuitous.

It was still an enjoyable show but it had the potential to be so much more. If the manga was still in print, I would definitely be checking it out because even without having read it I got the impression halfway through that they were compressing a lot of material down to fit into one episode and the execution became pretty sloppy.

Casshern was... ehh. The impression I got from most of my followers on twitter was that they had no clue what was happning, and from the guy who actually saw it before, nothing happens for another 5 episodes.

Deadman Wonderland was pretty great though. I think it'll be the better of the two.

I've seen DMW before, so I'm mainly watching that one for the dub. But I enjoyed it the first time I watched it. The ending was a bit "eh", but I think as a whole it was entertaining enough to warrant rewatching it on this new block.

I couldn't figure out anything that was going on in Casshern Sins (other than, as the show clearly wants me to understand, the main character's name is Casshern xD), but it did make me interested enough to continue watching to see if I can figure out what's going on. I want to see where it's going. Also, the art and animation are so gorgeous and unique that I would continue watching for the pretty alone, so being interested in the plot is just a bonus!

Imo, I preferred Deadman Wonderland a bit better. Casshern Sins was also alright but I wasn't too used to the animation and the first episode didn't click for me.

As for Deadman Wonderland, I liked the theme of the series as well as the soundtrack and strange characters. As the storyline is still incomplete for the anime, I felt a bit disappointed the way it ended. (well at least for this season) I do admit that I enjoyed the gore, violence, and some of the interactions between the main characters. Overall, I found the overall concept to be interesting. Also unlike Casshern Sins, I liked the opening episode that really got me interested in the series.

Hmm...now that I think about it, I might give the OVA a try but the dubbed on the reformed Toonami..uh maybe someday, maybe.

Lol, your satellite must be off. Toonami starts at Midnight (or 11pm central time) every Saturday Night (or Sunday morning or what not)

But then again I guess it depends on what CN feed you get and where in the U.S. you live.

But yeah, looking forward to watching Toonami for the rest of the Summer! Cool

Casshern Sins is very slow to develop. I watched most of the show but wasn't into it enough to finish. The titular character is a wandering warrior who doesn't like fighting, so he's kind of like Vash the Stampede from Trigun but without all the eccentricity. However, maybe that's part of the reason the show isn't that compelling. There is nothing about Casshern that makes him particularly relatable or sympathetic as a protagonist. He seems completely aloof to his surroundings and doesn't seem to have the usual burning passion to right some wrong or protect the innocent or anything like that. He just travels around and tries to survive, which could be interesting if he had an engaging personality. It's not a bad show, but it is not the most enjoyable show either. It might make you think a bit about philosophy though if that is your bag.
