I don't think 2001 to 2003 qualifies as "quite old", but that's just me.

Anyway, while I haven't seen the anime, I do quite enjoy the manga. I think what I really like is how the main character doesn't start off as some go playing machine, but rather has to learn by playing people that are clearly better than he is. It's kind of refreshing.

I like the manga but I wouldn't watch the anime unless it was on television (like that's going to happen...). The nice thing about it is that you don't need to know anything about Go to understand what's going on.

Well that's like the nice thing about most sport/game title: Slam Dunk, Fighting Spirit, Yugioh and so on...

If they just start out by having the people already know the sport/game, than it will only limit its viewer or readership by targeting a small majority. It's logical to try to get as many people to watch/read your stuff because it would make you more money.

I have about half the anime, and I can't say it's the best thing I've watched. It's by far not the worst either. I think the manga is considerably better than the anime for a few reasons. The Go games drag on quite a bit, and the show is hard to get into. The manga also has a bit more humor to it. Sometimes my attention just...wanders
