Exactly as the title points out, what is it? I always read whats out from Tokyopop and they have a list of Cinemanga's. Are they like the InuYasha Ani-Mangas or what.

from what i see in tokyopop website since i dont have any and never seen one in the bookstore, cinemanga is like any manga except the pictures are taken straight from the motion pictures counterpart. like buffy the vampire slayer manga are filled with the screenshots from the tv series.

Just to be on the cynical side...it's one more way for them to get you to spend your money!

The quick answer: It's crap. Don't waste your money.

Long answer: As eveyrone else already stated, it's the same as 'Ani-Manga.' Just screenshots with word bubbles added in photoshop.

Well if you put it like that, than every merchandise is one more way for you to spend your money.

Honestly, many people that put down these type of anime manga, have probably not check it out yet. They serve their purpose to a select few and some are a lot better than some of the American Super Hero comic out today. Someone that already seen the anime might not pick it up, but someone that might not have, will probably get them interested. Just try to keep an open mind about the situtation.

It's also worth noting that you (as in, any of you who are likely to be reading this thread) are NOT the target audience of TP's Cine-manga. While Viz's line consists of adaptations from popular anime, most of TP's screenshot-books are from American TV properties and the like. They're aimed at younger readers who don't give a flying fart about who storyboarded episode 8 of Hellsing, but might pass by a Cine-manga in a bookstore and say, "Wow! A Spongebob Squarepants book of the cartoon!" Yes, I can see you scoffing and laughing right now, but Tokyopop makes bank on this, because little kids LOVE to see their favorite TV and cartoon characters on anything. It's a format that exists in its own little world outside of "regular" manga and comic fandom.

Embarassed Okay, since everyone is allowed to change their mind, I'm changing mine. Yes, it is a way to get more money, But Patachu is also right. Since we are already anime addicts, it is not really necessary for us to buy cinemanga, but it might catch the eye of someone who is not familiar with anime, read it, and then cause them to watch the series, try others series and join some of the rest of us haunting video stores impatiantly waiting for new releases of our favorites. Smile

Aren't some of the ani-mangas also published in Japan?

Yeah, but there's a better market for that in Japan than in the US.

I guess it's a way to get people to read "manga" that don't like it in black and white.
