As many of us know, Spike TV (TNN's soon-to-be newest incarnation) is supposed to air with it's name change on Monday (if I'm wrong with the date please correct me). Along with this change, they are supposed to start airing anime.

I just read an article today stating that TNN has had an injunction placed against them to prevent the scheduled name change until it has a chance to go before a judge. Apparently, Spike Lee and his lawyer Johnnie Cochran believe that TNN name change is "a deliberate attempt to hijack his name, image and reputation."

Here's the article:

Does anyone think that they will go ahead and roll out their new schedule line-up now, including the anime, and just do a name change later on if they win or will they scrap everything about it until the lawsuit it over.

My husband and I were watching TNN last night and they said the animation block will start June 26 at 10PM. Then they had a little commercial (a la Adult Swim's black background/white text) that said they couldn't release their new name due to an injunction in NY...
So, it looks to me like they plan on going ahead with it.

They're going ahead with their new animation block. They've made new commercials for it to get rid of any mention of "Spike TV", which Spike Lee believes is infringing on his name. The animation block will launch, but the name change won't unless TNN wins the case against Spike Lee.

What anime? They haven't announced any anime for the block.

Sorry about that, you're right about it being animation block not anime. I could've sworn I saw somewhere saying they would be doing anime, but for the life of me I can't find it now.

Cool

The shows that TNN will be showing in their animation block seem to be not anime but American comedy titles and one with large breasts. I will wait til I see them to pass judgement but I have only heard of 3 titles.

*nods* There's only three titles in their animation block:
Ren & Stimpy
Stripperella
Gary the Rat

TNN's new "guy TV' incarnation sounds like it could be a real loser. Ren & Stimpy's gross-out humor is funny, but not what I'd consider adult animated fare. The other two TNN animations could be okay, especially Gary the Rat, but I'll have to see. Haven't seen much discussion anywhere about their other programming, and that's a bad sign this close to their launch date. (^_*)

Looking on Zap2it's tv listings for the next week, it look like the only change from the current "New TNN" to the "Spike TV" is the addition of the animation block. All the other shows that I see on there have been showing on "The New TNN" for a while.

arxane: He didn't just believe. It was infringing on his name. He had information that they were hoping the name Spike would attract an urban demographic.

Sorry to bring up a dead post but I had to do this rather than make a new one.

Woo-hoo!! Another frivolous lawsuit settled/dismissed. I guess Spike decided the infringement on his name wasn't worth possibly losing $2.5 million that the judge ordered he post and if he lost would go to Viacom. It had originally only been $500,000, but the judge decided it should really be $2.5 million, and gave Spike until today to pony up the rest of the cash. He didn't and after settling with Viacom, the judge tossed the case. TNN can now change to Spike TV.
