I don't know where I can post this so I put it here. Why do we not have a board section for off-topic, general discussion?

Because this is an anime site. It even says so in the rules:

You'd have to ask one of the higher ups why.

If you'd also like to ask other users for their opinion, then put this kind of thread in the Anime forum instead. Talkback is reserved for frontpage headline news only. Thanks.
