I was just wondering what do y'all think of the Flame of Recca manga?.....How's the story?....How's the action?
I'm just finishing the Rurouni Kenshin manga (currently on Volume 23....I almost got the complete set!....it's definitely one of my all time favorites), and I'm looking for a new interesting action, shonen-type manga to get into with a good storyline. Flame of Recca just caught me eye with its great artwork. It also lasts 33 volumes so it must have been popular in Japan for a while.
From a lot of the reviews that I've read, people have said that the anime is ok with some decent fights, but the manga is excellent and way better than the anime.

Flame of Recca is better to me than Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, or Bleach. I really enjoyed the different madugals' powers and that made for quite interesting fights. They also allowed the characters a better way to "level up".
Mainly it's a fight manga, will lots of fighting and a large tournament with tons of characters to beat. But there were also a lot of laughs and a good plot line.
I don't enjoy the anime of Flame of Recca because the animation is second class. Bleh. But the manga is wonderful and easy to follow.

I really like this series. I'd say the art is pretty good and it has a fairly interesting storyline. The thing that makes it different from most shonen titles is that you can sympathize with the antagonist, too.
In this case, the antagonist, Kurei, is actually my favorite character. His past justifies his actions, and frankly, I find Recca to be annoying sometimes. He is just too predictable and follows the general development of shonen protagonists.
It's a good read, I recommend it.

I really liked this manga. I didn't like the 2nd arc as much as I liked the first arc though, but it did get better. And it actually had a very good ending
be careful of assuming certain character's genders though. the author has a tendency to make very effeminate male characters
The story line is very forumlaic...it's either a tourny or a "you have to get through me first" kinda thing.
I recommend it though, it's very enjoyable.

No, there won't. Flame of Recca is too old at this point. You'll just have to stick with the (far superior) manga.

It's alright -- until y'get 3-6 volumes on one fighting tournament. Then it gets rather dull... I'm not sure how long the tournament lasted, because I stopped reading mid-way.

The Tournament lasted until volume 16, but it was hardly dull, in my opinion.

All the way to 16? Ugh. They generally follow the same pattern. Main character gets the more difficult battles - while supporting characters get relatively easier battles. Nevertheless, they're all dangerous.
I've been reading Negima; and it seems that only 2 volumes or so is dedicated towards a fighting tournament. Simply because there is much more story to be told other than a fighting tournament (in that series).
