What if we wish to have a non-anime related discussion with the members of the Anime News Network forums? Gathering a bunch of IM names and having everyone online at one time would be difficult.

There are plenty of other anime-related fora out there in the far reaches of the 'net which do allow off-topic, non-anime-related discussions, and even have subfora for that purpose.
This one doesn't, through a conscious and carefully considered decision on the part of the management, with the full support of most of the staff and long-term users. So if you don't feel that you can live without an off-topic forum, I'm afraid your only option is to seek it elsewhere. When in Rome, do as the Romans do... - abunai |

We permit off-topic chat in the IRC channel. You can access it by clicking on "chat". Mind you, it's often quite quiet in there, but if you show up at the right time and with an interesting topic, you might get something interesting going. -t |
