The cloth of the outfit that Kenshin is wearing looks surprisingly similar to the one worn by the unseen character. The fact that he is also holding the Sakabato leads me to believe this is some sort of dream sequence where he's fighting himself. Like perhaps struggling with his inner demons and his vow to never kill again. Who else would fight with the Sakabato and leave the blade facing back at himself.
