Sounds like the battles would just increase the rate at which magical energy is used and thus make the situation worse...

Sounds like one of those darker magical girl shows. I read the LN awhile ago but can't remember much about it though.

Yet another follow-the-leader Madoka Magica imitation? The 'Ikusei' (raising/training) part of the title has me very suspicious.

Ah, where we would be without the "muh muhdoka" post? Laughing

Late night Mahou Shoujo is truly in a limbo (In the west, in Japan Yuki Yuna sold 10k and Symphogear is its season best seller) if it is traditional people say its boring and that it played too safe, however should it be twisted people come screaming Madoka Clone!

Maybe we would be better off with fifteen new battle harems no?

Yeah, the Magica comparisons are ridiculous. If anything, this sounds like Future Diary. Shocked

I would be surprised if we did not get such comments for late-nigth tv mahou shoujo anime at this point on the big American anime news sites.

A magical girl show in which the girls are literally engaged in a life-or-death war of survival? Alright, I'm interested! Smile

I kinda wish Mahou Shoujo of the End would get adapted just to see the looks on people's faces. "This is just another crappy Madoka clo--wait, did she just blow up that guy's head?"

There are more types of stories than "traditional" and "twisted," y'know. Magical girl shows should try some of those categories more often. As they did in... uh... Madoka, or Princess Tutu or Utena, both of which predate Madoka.

Post-Madoka, it's been basically nothing but "twisted." Day Break Illusion, Wixoss, Yuki Yuna, and now this thing. The general concept of "Moe that suddenly turns dark" is also becoming a thing, as you can see from a certain show currently airing. Angsty cynicism is in, and Madoka has a lot to do with that theme making its way into a formerly "cute" genre. Not a horrible thing in and of itself (well, it kinda is, but that's a whole other can of worms), but bandwagon-jumping stories are usually thrown together to capitalize on a trend and end up not being very good. Yuki Yuna was good, but it's the least arbitrarily dark one so far (less so than Madoka).

(Wish Upon The Pleiades is traditional but it's a remake of an OVA series made around the same time as Madoka. Symphogear is the only exception I can think of, and it came out barely half a year after Madoka ended and has the same lead voice actor, so I'm not sure it counts, either. Though it's more like Nanoha than anything else.)
