This movie is like literally the only thing that came out this year that legitimately interests me. Still unfortunately haven't gotten around to seeing it though. It's just extremely rare to get something like this out of this industry that doesn't make moe waifuism and commercialism it's sole focus so it'd be nice to see it get some attention. Doubt it though as not a lot people in the current anime community seem to find these sorts of period dramas interesting like I do.

@ Alabaster Spectrum You are living in some weird fantasy world if you think the films are "moe waifuism". Have you not heard about any the other historical films like; Giovanni's Island, Mai Mai Miracle, Fuse Memoirs of a Huntress?. I don't believe I've ever even seen one of these "moe waifuism" films you watch.

Well it'd be weird that a commercial industry wouldn't be focused on having commercial hits...

As for the "moe waifuism" claim, taking out the compilation films, kids films and "moe waifuism" films, in the same year "Miss Hokusai" was released, the following came out;

Psycho-Pass: The Movie
The Case of Hana & Alice
Miss Hokusai
New Initial D the Movie
Yowamushi Pedal Re:ROAD
Yowamushi Pedal: The Movie
The Empire of Corpses
Harmony
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin I - Blue-Eyed Casval
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin II - Artesia's Sorrow
Cyborg 009 Vs. Devilman

I saw the film late last year. It's pretty good even though I was never a fan of the director's last film. It probably relies a bit too much on the assumption that the audience is knowledgeable about Katsushika Hokusai. Reading up the woman who wrote the original manga, Hinako Sugiura, I think her story is equally as fascinating as O-Ei's.

If this shows near me, I will make a point to go see it, even though I didn't really care all that much for it. I just want to encourage Gkids and others to bring more adult anime films like this to the US. I'm still waiting for Giovanni's Island...

I saw this movie when it first came out in Japan. Was really a mixed bag of a film - some really inspired, imaginative and trippy artistic scenes, but as a whole the narrative really underwhelmed me. Wasn't sure how I felt about it afterwards.

I'll definitely check this out at one point or another (hopefully in theaters), but could a distributor, preferably GKIDS, please localize Giovanni's Island already? I've been waiting on an announcement for a US release on that for years.

Same. I'll see/buy this movie just to let them know the interest for this kind of thing is here, but Giovanni's Island is an extremely overlooked film. Been considering importing the AUZ copy at some point, if it doesn't seem like it'll ever happen. Most of the stuff I've imported from Australia has been licensed very soon after that, of course...

I tried to watch that trailer three times, but it crashed Flash Player or gave me a blank screen whenever I clicked "skip ad." I'm going to see this film anyway, but this experience wouldn't have encouraged me to do so.

Why can't we just watch the trailer without ads? Does ANN really have such a high proportion of people suffering from Type II diabetes that we need to see an ad for a diabetes drug?

I don't know who is actually hosting this particular video, but ANN has caused Flash to crash on my browse(Chrome) repeatedly over the last couple of months. To the point where I have to enable ad-block if I'm going to stay on any article for more than a few minutes, or have multiple tabs open. It's not really ideal...

The video is just an embed from Yahoo! Movies. Not sure what's wrong with your Flash, guys. And we can't control the video ad, it's not from us.

I figured it wasn't something directly tied to you guys, but for whatever reason, this is literally the only site Flash ever crashes for me on. I've run through all of the standard troubleshooting and nothing seems to help. This video doesn't cause me any problems, just to clarify. It's just the typical video ads that show up on the top right. I've tried to report them and always get an error. Confused
