Funny how I'm watching Dallos right now when this article popped up
I also watched Patlabor a few months ago, which I really liked and Ghost in the Shell was really interesting too.

Quote: | Previous winners of the award include Kihachiro Kawamoto (1988), Osamu Tezuka (1989-1990), Hayao Miyazaki (1998), Katsuhiro Otomo (2014), and Isao Takahata (2016). |
Given this list as it currently stands, Oshii's name is the most prominent absentee I can think of. Time shall tell whether the likes of Kawamori, Hosoda, Shinkai and Yamada are ultimately added, but western success will likely be a perturbing factor.

You won't hear any disagreement from me on this. I also think that Mr. Oshii getting an Annie Award is also a good thing. He deserves it.
