I've seen a few anime go with the forced crossdressing route, which I like, but that sounds a little out of my league.

I checked it out and I laughed a good few times, so I have it on my 3 ep watch list for when it does air. If anything this show will be the anime that season to be mined for reaction images.

I might give this a watch, to see what the series actually does with the premise. Kind of reminds me of White Chicks.

According to the encyclopedia entry, it's one of those perfect sex change operations (well, three of them, I guess). Unless the story actually goes into how that's not how they actually work.

I read the first few chapters when this first serialized, the basic setup is:
The three of them screwed up and lost big on some business deal for their yakuza boss. Rather than kill them, he coerces them into (fictitiously perfect) SRS and subjects them to like an entire year of mindfsck to mold them into an idol group to earn back the money they lost. (Because their boss heard there's a lot of money to be made in idols these days) Imagine if J. Jonah Jameson was a yakuza boss—that is their boss.
The chapters then revolve around the black comedy of the trio trying to retain what shreds of their dignity they can as they perform as a B-list idol group whose theater is literally down a back alley. At the same time you get abject horror from them when they occasionally find themselves liking certain aspects of idoldom/being girls. I think the term Backstreet Girls also has a specific connotation in Japan, but I can't remember what it was anymore.
The artstyle is rather odd compared to most manga, but the reaction faces are top-rate.
