Hopefully he can stick the landing to this series unlike Erased. But, even despite that he’s clearly a skilled writer in the mystery genre so I’ll still be giving this a chance. It seems pretty compelling.

Erased had so much going on that it would have been an impressive feat to create a climactic ending which neither rang hollow, felt forced, nor left too many things unanswered. The scene he wrote, on top of the hospital, felt somewhat forced I thought, but stayed true to the characters as established and the conversation filled in the empty spaces, albeit in a somewhat contrived manner. Not the most convincing ending, to be sure, but it could have come off a lot worse.

That's the ending of the anime, but not of the manga. The manga goes on for longer with the hospital stuff and ends with a confrontation in a summer camp area.

Thanks for the info. Now I am going to have to read the manga to get the original ending.
