As might be obvious by the name, it basically channels Strugatskys' Roadside Picnic book (which also the STALKER game did).

The story sounds much more like the recent British TV show Primeval, in which glittering tesselations are portals forward and backward in time. Literarily it also compares with Time Storm, by the preeminent Gordon R. Dickson. Roadside Picnic presents large areas of current real-time Earth that have been altered by the passage of extraterrestrial entities. One does not need to pass through a hidden portal to get to them; only a total mentality of foolheardiness.

I tend to save digital light novels for when I'm without internet for a while (the ocean), so I still haven't read the first volume, but I'm surprised and excited seeing it has this many volumes.
