How is it possible that this is being released in the winter season when there's only a couple weeks left and it was announced 2 weeks ago?

Pretty sure they mean closing in on next winter. Not sure what you count as winter over where you live, but in our neck of the woods, it's usually December -> January -> February. More so if you think of it as a winter half year, with spring and autumn being short transitional periods between that and summer.
