That's interesting but not unexpected, back in the day Teletoon was the place any Cartoon Network show would end up since we didn't have the actual Cartoon Network channel back then. While I know of Boomerang I don't actually know what the deal with the channel was in the states.

Boomerang was/is a cartoon channel dedicated to more classic cartoons such as Hanna-Barbera and Looney Toons. Last time I checked they did more recent ones like Dexter's Laboratory and Cow & Chicken. At least that's the case with the US one.

Cartoon Network shows were actually spread across YTV and Teletoon, with YTV getting most of the better stuff.

You sure? I remember YTV mostly showing Nickelodeon shows.

I have to assume it will be called Cartoon Network Canada, or something similar. Otherwise, it's going to be really confusing for people like me who currently have Cartoon Network from the U.S, on channel 723 and Teletoon on channel 727.

While YTV is where I first discovered anime (since YTV is where most anime first aired in Canada), I still have fond memories of watching shows on Teletoon. And yes, that includes Cardcaptors, because that was what led me getting into Cardcaptor Sakura later on. Cybersix, which is a Canadian-Japanese co-production, was also a big highlight on that channel; that show came out over 23 years ago but the animation is still incredible to look at.
I guess it was inevitable that Teletoon would be rebranded as Cartoon Network since it aired a lot of Cartoon Network shows anyway, but it's still a little bittersweet to hear this news.

It wasn't until the late '00s that Teletoon started getting all of CN's stuff. YTV aired shows like Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, Justice League, HiHi Puffy AmiYumi, Teen Titans, etc.

Unless you have a pirated IPTV service, you don't have Cartoon Network from the U.S. You'd have the current Cartoon Network Canada channel, which will be rebranded as Boomerang.

Not sure about Johnny Bravo but I do remember those other shows on YTV. So yeah you're right. It was kind of mix between them with Family Channel grabbing all the Disney shows.

Haven't had cable in like 13 years, but this is still the end of an era.

That seems...unnecessarily confusing. I get that the branding maybe fits with the content on the network, as in one that airs older cartoons becoming Boomerang, so they wouldn't call Teletoon Boomerang, but I guess I'm not sure what purpose this serves. If people in the area know it by that name already, what is gained by swapping the name that was already in use?
